How to replace fuel filter
 

I need to replace the fuel filter on my FD3s, how do you access it?

I lifted the car and the fuel filter appears to be on top of the diff.:scratch:

There's no way I can even get my hands up there...:Wconfused

Basically
1. relieve fuel line pressure
2. remove the old filter with the mounting bracket.
3. put new filter on bracket.
4. remount



yea its a bit of a pain but its doable.....

i've never done this before, but i've read that the labor charges for changing out the fuel filter are ridiculous. it's only $25 at jiffy lube?

is this wise? if they dont plug the fuel lines right away the fuel system will have to be repressurized...right?

This isn't a technically involved job. But I've seen how the work-release folks at JiffyLube can screw up a simple oil change. A mystery would be why anyone would give them a tougher job.

when I did mine I just - ran the fuel tank down low, removed the fuel pump relay, ran the car til it died, did the change (some fuel leaked out), put the relay back in and cranked til it started (about 5 seconds).

You can just prime the fuel system by running the fuel pump for a few seconds before starting the car. No biggie. Otherwise it just cranks for a while before starting.

i was just wondering if i could replace the stock filter with that of another car, im sure it will require some fabbing. the thing is i there are no FD filters available here and i doubt any company delivers to pakistan, let alone charge a credit card registered here.

That shouldn't be a problem, just make sure it is made for a fuel injected car, the filters for carbureted systems won't work because they aren't made for high pressure.

You might as well relocate it to a more accessible spot too. :)

Is there a flow rating he would need to match?

Perhaps, maybe it would be smart to obtain a fuel filter from a car with a larger engine?

However, IIRC the fuel filter for miatas is about the same size as the FD's filter. And the miata sips gas compared the FD. It has been a while since I replaced the miata filter, so I could be mistaken.

hmmm i was thinking of the 2004 honda civic filter. it has a pretty straight forward design. easy to mount anywhere! but ill see if i can find one from a bigger engine car. a jeep maybe!

why not just buy one from mazda for 15.00

im sorry i keep hearing this number thrown around for the price of the fuel filter. its more like $45 dollars unless you have some magical source for parts. it is $45ish from ray.

This has been discussed before, and I believe the person that started the discussion was using a Porsche filter. I don't know for sure, but I believe there are flow requirements. Either way, the rotary is already sensitive to lean conditions, so I would be very careful about which filter I used as a replacement.
