Its a pain. small hands and arms triple jointed and loads of different shaped long nose and handle pliers are all required.
Only job i ever did that made me wanna throw spanners.

it isnt that bad...get under the car huge the diff and your done in 30 minutes...

First the filter is located about the differential mounted to the body (you cant miss it..

Then un-bolt it from the bracket to make it a lil easier to to gain some room.

after that it is pretty easy.

Easy if your filter looks like it hasent been on there for 14 years.

I couldnt get the fuel lines off my filter they were stuck and its so tight in there you cant get any leverage so it ended up taking me almost 1hr just to get the lines off, the rest of it was easy.

well

Guys thanks for the input seem t be enough to get under there. Bascailly the car still has the filter that came from the factory. before that never felt the need to replace it thinking of what a pain it was. few days ago the car started hesitaing to rev above 6500 rpm in third gear and above under high boost. now slowly as the days passed the car hesisitates to rev over 4000 rpm while driving and backfirex a lot and is also running lean at idle now. i though maybe i was my plugs dyin on me i took out the plugs and clean signs of running lean were evident so Now I am gathering all the courage needed to do one of the toughest job on my fad yet. though i have swapped the engine and tranny on my car before but still this looks more hectic for such a small task. Wish me luck

It easier with a lift. And depending on cost, that might be one of the few things I'd let a dealer tech do on my car....

I would GLADLY put on 15 downpipes rather than ONE fuel filter! Talk about one of THE most pain-in-the-***, frustrating, aggravating, ENRAGING tasks!
Now, having said that, once you do it, and find that perfect length of ratchet extension, and have trained at least one of your hands to dis-joint itself....it is not impossible.
(The funnest thing is when the fuel runs down your arm and collects in your armpit and gets on your belly....oh boy, now THAT is a treat!)

I have done a lot of mechanical works on car, although never attempted to replace the FD RX7 fuel filter I must said it is not worth my time.

Mine was done at Gotham Racing during a street tune, it took 2 hrs 15 minutes. That was with special tool and underneath a lift. I couldn't imagine doing it lying on my back.

$150.00 buck for labor aint bad....

I will never remove one just to reinstall it back in the stock location. If you do effort to change it out please do yourself a favor and consider relocating it to the lower portion of the rear subframe or somewhere more accessible.

Really, every time I have removed the stock located filter I am in retrospect thankful that no one close by was smoking or doing hot work.

would be crazy not to have the filter relocated.

Normal fuel filter change is 10-15K miles, even with 5K miles interval next change for mine would be in 5 yrs.

I honestly never saw why people thought it was that terribly difficult. The trick is just to visualize the filter while you do it blindly. Use the force, Luke. haha

I would much rather do this job than install a DP or something of that sort. Exhaust work sucks when you snap a bolt or something.
