FDFDFD.... seriously... just get a job at any fast food place.... kfc, mcdonalds, etc... Save up money! just don't waste it on stupid little things like the rest 90% of teens...

Actually I saved up more than $2000 since I was born ( mostly present money I saved up to eventually buy a car ) then last year my mom put it all into a savings account which I cannot access fore 5 more years.. :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash:

Is it legal to work @ age 15 in Mass?

I've saved up almost $600 since then.... well, there's one aftermarket seat for my future FD :)

And I want to do good in school, too.

4000 dollars from parents to buy a car, 1000 saved up, 1500 grad money, 7000 loan = a good running FD for me!
a week after I turned 19, not even a month ago!

xplosive 06-19-08 06:18 PM

got my fd 2 weeks ago and im 17. Dad co-signed for me cause he wanted me and him to work on this car together. Luckily him and his brother know their rotaries. (Uncle rebuilds them for a living)

I have an athletic competitive cyclist kidney that I'd trade for a FD. Some alcohol, but I'll give a 10 year warrenty on it. I want a FD!!!!

researched for an FD when i was 13-14. Bought car for 9,500 when i was 16 in 2003. Still have the car and I am grateful for every moment, I'm 21 now.

StreetRage 06-19-08 07:07 PM

hahahahaha... funny sh** montego.... =D
wow.... u owned one for 10 years?! Thats crazY! =D good stuff.
And no FDFDFD i dont think its legal to work at 15... at least not in california.... but u can always do some work under the table. There are always jobs that pay cash and they usually dont care how old you are..... For example, standing there waving the sign... thats like $9 an hour over here. cash. u can do it at 15. and another job i did when i was 15 is passing out flyers for businesses. Like door to door passing out all kinds of advertisements. $10 an hour cash.

Legal age of work is 14 =), I knew cuz that's when i started working with a working permit from school.

Save up until i was in college at age of 18 ( June 5, 2005), worked @ Bank of America. Bought mine for 11k cash all earned by myself.

Loved it since I was in high school, bought it still have it and getting ready for a single turbo conversion =)

What kind of places hire you at 14 years old? I wouldn't think many people would hire 14 year olds?

KKMpunkrock2011 06-19-08 08:50 PM

hyvee and burger king is really the only places here that do, i'm sure there are others, like I know amigos will give you at least a courtesy interview, but i'm not sure of really anything else
oh and you can detassle, 1500 in three weeks, but up at five in a pesticide covered field, not sure it's worth it

I actually started working @ a friend's parent's distribution company. Try movie theatres? My cousin he is 16, he just recently got hired by Century here in SF, CA. So if there is a will, there is a way =)

You can do a work study in most high schools where the last couple hours a day you take off and go to work. Honestly i wish i would have had a job in high school. I had my business i was running when i was 16... but being in high school, and trying to run that sad little thing that i called a business wasn't making me cash that a regular job could. But still if i didnt start it then, i might not have it now. the business was making me about 300-400 a month, nothing big at all. But it grew and now aftermarket automotive is my life... and i love it.

FD3Smaniac 06-19-08 10:48 PM

Also i somewhat agree with the whole mommy and daddy thing. the times it really bugs me is when the spoon fed teens with the 20 thousand dollar cars think they are untouchable and that they are the shit. thats the only time it gets to me. The down to earth teens that still pull a job even though mom and dad bought them a car, and still make their insurance payments and cell phone and everything else. there is some respect in that. I grew up in a low-middle income family in Flint Michigan, bought my own cars, paid all my own insurance and bills. Just start working early if you want that FD bad enough you will have it. I was the same way at 16.. it felt so unobtainable. I used to see an FD once and awhile when i didnt have one, and it was like a dream to see it. Now that i see it everyday, its just like ... EH... nice car... but its not like a dream. It kinda grew on me. FDFDFD.... work hard, thats all i can say.

lassen118 06-20-08 12:16 AM

14 years old!!! it was my project car to keep me out of trouble and it worked i spent all my money on it and never got into anything bad. i hope to do the same for my kid but im only 19 now so i have some years to go.

I worked my ass off just so I could buy an FD. I know im only 17 and I know im in hardcore debt now.. well not really ill pretty much have it paid off by this winter. I bought it cause it was my dream car and I wanted to show my parents that I could be on my own and hell.. might as well do it with the car i've been dreaming about since I first got a ride in it.. grade 7 :). I love the car and I take the best care of it.. I treat it like its my child..

and I hope someday when I have kids they will look like my fd..

JazzyFD 06-20-08 01:59 AM

19 in 2005 and i bought it with my own money.

bambino 06-20-08 02:24 AM

wow i dont know abt you guys but in singapore minimun age for taking your licence is definitely not 16 lol but i can remember if its 18 or 20 lol .. my brother and me were dreaming of one since god knoes when...more like 10 yrs.. soon after my bro got his fc abt 2yrs ago... i bought a fd...but they dont come cheap from the place i come from..his cost him abt 35k and mine was over 60k... btw i am 29 this year.

FDFDFD 06-20-08 06:50 AM

Anyone want to sell me a FD3S RX7 in eh....1.5 years for about..... Less than $8K?
:) Seriously. Anybody?

Here in MA we have to be 16 1/2 to obtain a license. At 16, we can get a permit, but you gotta have like a 18 year old or someone in the passenger seat. So 16 1/2 is when I'm really going to be driving.

Should RX7's ( FD3S ) that sell for less than $9,000 be avoided? I've talked to some members and they said there wasn't much positive things to be said about them, and that the RX's that are ~15K should be in good condition.

Bought mine for $17,500 with the single conversion already. Was a little iffy as to the mechanical condition of the car. But as soon as I was told that Rotary Performance did everything to the car, I called and confirmed with RP and as soon as they said the car was built by them, I called the owner and arranged for the purchase.:icon_tup:
Got it the next day...

*Then that afternoon the starter died* But it was still worth it.

FDFDFD 06-20-08 09:23 AM

What do you guys think of starting with a FC, then upgrading to a FD once I hit ~2nd year of college...?

FC's are so much cheaper and much more readily available... but the FD is my dream.
Looks like used FC's go for as much as used civics do. ~$3-5K.

stick with the fc through all your college years.

FD3Smaniac 06-20-08 03:17 PM

if you get an FD and you really cant afford it, your going to kick yourself in the ass for having to sell it later. Definitely when it was the one car you wanted to keep forever. Get the FD when its obtainable, dont stretch to get it. FC's are great cars, i had a 240 and a TII before i ever got my FD.

mrb63083 06-20-08 03:34 PM

I paid $9,400 for mine back in the spring/summer of 2002. I was 19 years old.

rajahFD 06-20-08 03:39 PM

I guess this is my chance to boast.. LOL!

Got the car a week before turning 17. Don't mean to turn this into a cultural/race situation, but if anyone really knows a Mexican family (or is Mexican, for that matter), they know NOTHING is handed to them.

All my money and none of my parents. At age 10 or 11 (I forgot), I asked my mom for a SEGA System, she said, "You want that? Well.. start working" From then on to about 17, I worked pure odd jobs paying under the table. It was LS1'd about 4-5 months after.

At age 19, I got my 05 C6. I'm 20 now, going on 21 this November. :D

Yeah, mang.. I did it on a budget at first since I couldn't afford the bling-bling, so NOW I'm doing it right.

Taking the motor out, painting engine bay, adding some body parts (Pettit Flares), new wheels, suspension, brakes, full car paint job, all SS lines, taking all emissions off (cats!!), working on my own painless wiring system since I left a lot of unnecessary crap on it just to get it up and running. A big hassle, but it's going to be worth it. I've been seeing some ULTRA CLEAN swaps, so that was the motivation. :D

I was going to go with a C5 Z06, but the price on the C6 was just too good to pass up. :p:

Haven't seen ya around in a while. Still battlin' out the n00bs in the Kill Section? :D

FDFDFD 06-20-08 05:49 PM

Could someone recommend me a nice starter car with some pros and cons ( RWD preferable )

I have already thought of - 300ZX ( but I don't like the looks )
240SX
Miata ( too small )
FC3S
Anything else?
