How Much Would You Pay?

Well my itch to get back into and FD has turned into a full blown infection. I am looking for an unmolested low mileage example.

I looked at one this morning at a dealership which is 100% bone stock. All the interior plastics are intact, AC blows cold, all body gaps are even. This thing looks brand new. It was previously owned by a Mazda dealership, or so I am told. It does have some paint swirls and the engine bay needs a little love but its a 20 year old car. The only alteration I could find was a silicone vacuum hose job. Here are the details.

94 Touring
Chaste White
30K Miles
R1 Seats (ordered directly from factory)
R1 Front Lip
Moon Roof

He is asking $27K for it and I am thinking that is steep. I think he has had the car since June as it has a June inspection sticker and we are heading into a slow market for sports car as winter approaches. Its been raining here all week so I wasnt going to bother test driving it. I will be going back next week but I was hoping for some input.

I think you guys are looking at the same car.. unless there are more than one 94 CW FD with 30k going for ~$27k at the moment.

Curious to see who will pull the trigger first hehe

Mazda dealership? If it is they might i say might know what they are talking about! Low mileage for a FD doesn't mean it hasn't been abused.

druggist 10-12-13 02:51 PM

Wouldn't pay more than 20k for it.

Goldhush 10-12-13 07:13 PM

scribo - It most certainly is the exact same car. I am glad I am not the only one

seven1997 - I wouldnt be buying it from a Mazda dealership. This guy claims he got it from a Mazda dealership who "took it to shows". Its not that I don't trust this guy its that I really don't care all that much if a dealership owned it before me. It didnt get its 30K miles sitting in a show room. If its a solid car and I am buying as advertised a crack dealer could have owned it and I wouldnt care.

Honestly I hope this price could reflect the near future prices of our cars so they wouldn't be "cheap" like they are now. So in getting the ball rolling, yes pay it, its a fair price.

I really, really, really doubt that it came with R1 seats from the factory. Mazda didnt allow custom orders, tge deslership may have swapped them but Mazda didnt.

$19-22k depending on how nice it is and how bad you want it.

juanrotores 10-13-13 03:12 PM

I think 27 is pretty fair

HiWire 10-13-13 04:29 PM

Steep and probably negotiable, but how much is a new Scion FR-S or Subaru BRZ? This is better.

This does look like a good one, though. You probably deserve to own it more than the next guy.

Goldhush 10-13-13 04:32 PM

turbojeff - The seller has the window sticker which has the R1 seats included in the itemization of features. I was told that it was possible bc the original buyer was a Mazda Dealership.

I was thinking $17K-$18K. It sounds be be on the low end of fair, but still in the ball park. Thanks everyone

18k isn't in the parking lot much less ball park if you're referring to an offer to the dealer.

That particular dealer has sold a few FDs and they know what that car is worth.

If you want it you're going to have to pay for it. I'd suggest offering 23k after finding as many things as possible wrong with it LOL.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I will continue sit back and wait for something to fall into my lap.

That's what I do but they don't fall into your lap if you want a nice FD for a low price you have to go out there and GET IT and it's getting harder and harder to find that needle in the haystack.

Along with the VR R2 I just picked up I also grabbed a 95 black base with 35k miles and it is SUPER NICE!!!!!! The VR R2 is for sale but the price is silly and won't come down anytime soon. I also have another VR R2 for sale but again the price is a bit high. Check the for sale section if interested.

The 95 BB car was heavily keyed so the previous owner got a killer deal on it and then preceded to give it a very nice paint job that cost 2k plus in materials alone along with fresh turbos etc...etc.... He runs a large limo/cab/transportation company and he gets very good pricing on paint work and they also work hard for him or give his work special attention. I'm no car show guy but I know decent paint and this car has a damn good paint job.

It is an automatic but I'm having PFS convert it to a manual or I will do it myself and it should be ready to go in a month or two if PFS does it or by spring if I do it LOL :)

This looks nice and the price is much better. Seller may be open to offers :)

The prices right now on autotrader are way up there so I expect next spring most of the good FDs for sale will be 20k plus :icon_tup:

I would love to see the sticker. Hopefully it is the original not the added one dealers add.

SA3R 10-14-13 01:18 AM

I think 27K is fair.

Across the pond here, we're seeing 39K for 1999-2000 RHD models which have been though a few hands and are not that original.

A RHD 1992-1996 usually goes for no less than 20K and its usually been through a few owners.

*In Australia. Your market may differ substantially :)
