how many miles did your engine(s) last?
ok guys here's a poll for ya,
how many miles did your engine(s) last till it/they poped? |
I'm at 110k with bad "O" rings :(
I'm still on stock engine, no problems right now:D
1st motor: (original) 88k coolent seal go bye bye. engine was bone stock. bought the car with 74k.
2nd motor: 112k apex seals fried along with turbo. mostly freeway miles with these engine mods: CAI/DP/CB/BOV/Koyo Rad. running 10psi, sometimes 12. 3rd motor: 45k still rolling with good compression. Same mods as above with new twins and PFC. so far so good <<crosses fingers and knocks on wood>> :) |
55k miles on original motor, still running strong (touch wood). Practically bone-stock tho.
131,000 one the original engine. The electrical gremlin took her out though.
Just recently hit 100,000 on "reliability mods"(fan mod, Koyo Radiator, DP, MP) . Small oil leaks through the oil filter base(fixed) and secondary turbocharger.
Repost. ;)
 yup...repost.
its a different kind of repost though :)
besides, i bet more engines blew since the last repost:)
20k total
15k fully moded 5k stock and lightly mdded The Fd is one of the only cars I know where the vehicle last longer than the engine. As where you can find wreckd corvettes and slowmaros with perfect engines all the time. |
new engine was put in her at 55k.... i dont know what went since i didnt own the car.. but its at 68 now and running great.... (knocks on wood)
camaros/slowmaros? lol, as in dealer/stealer?heh thats a new one:)
(well at least for me) |
50k on stock motor.18k on rebuild with blown O ring.
First RX-7 - 1st Engine - 142,000 miles with a gigantic boost leak and no 2nd turbo.
First RX-7 - 2nd Engine - 4,000 miles (Pettit Rebuild)...wreck Second RX-7 - 91,000 miles and still running STRONG!!! knocking on wood now So I guess I don't qualify to vote on the poll :p: Jack |
1st motor 107k....breaking in my ported motor now...
i dont know how far. But my last almost a year. (I remember changing my engine every single damn year)
it seems mine didnt last very long just 68k:(
Man a year ago I had great compression and really strong engine.
It took alot of abuse and held up, (also did alot of mods) until just recently when I blew a Coolant Seal. @ 33k miles on a reman I think at 10-12psi it would have still been alive and strong, but 15+psi really takes its toll on these twin triangles of deth. |
on my last Fd 139,XXX and still ticking with a 75 psi compression 2 month ago on original and running good with no problems!
The Fd is one of the only cars I know where the vehicle last longer than the engine. [/B][/QUOTE]
92-96 Prelude are dad too. I blew 3 motors in 3 yrs! I hate those cars! |

67k on stock engine
1st engine: @62k miles. Stock, bad O-rings [Covered Underwarranty]
2nd engine: @105k miles. Stock Dealer installed Mazda Reman. Massive front-cover oil leak and possibly bad O-rings. 3rd engine: 6k miles on a Pineapple Street Ported motor with all the reliabilty mods(and all the bolt-ons): Koyo, H2O temp guage, PFC fan settings @ 86 C, EVANS NPG+ Waterless coolant, Upgraded silicone O-rings, Miata thermoswitch(still need to install it) |
I beat all of you. One of our fd's is bone stock and ~170,xxx miles on the first engine. I'm shooting for 200,000 to set a record. I think it just goes to show you that a well taken care of fd is a pretty durable car in its stock form IMO
Motor in the car I now own was rebuilt at 38k miles. The chassis now has 64k on it. I bought it around 60k. Don't know why the engine went as it was the first owner (I'm the 3rd now).
1st Engine have no idea what mileage was on it...
2nd Engine; Streetport 3mmseals now with Apexi intakes,DP,Hi-Flo Cat, Apexi N1 Exhaust, Pettit ECU @ 11psi - 8,372 miles on it now and running just purrrfect. (Not daily driven, Friday + Saturday only). |
76k on 1st engine (coolant seal)
its koo it was under warranty anyways mike |
Just around 80K...O-ring
80k still running strong. :D
Looks like RX7s are fairly reliable to get to 100k miles. I'm assuming guys who blow their engines early probably race it a lot or don't have reliability mods??
89k original motor still running strong
88k on stock engine, then started dumping water...now waiting on a reman.
ive also got about 3 hours of track time on my motor ( road racing)
WOWW , I must be lucky ...130,000+ on stock motor with numerous reliability mods and some not so reliable . DP , MP, CB , PFC , intake , AVC-R , WB , J&S , 550/1300cc injectors , dataloggit , non-seq conv. , full block plates , stage3 clutch , FMIC , 3row rad , type-s BOV , lightly tuned , at 11.3 lbs. of boost , pulls like a MOFO !! ... I better knock on some wood now !!
95k stock engine, it still ran OK, but the O-ring was leaking a little bit.
my original motor lasted 76k with a failed water o ring. :(
92k km on org. motor
2k km on street ported and 3mm seals with T-78 and everything that goes with it |
63,000 on 1 st engine waiting on a replacement gonna try to replace it myself anyone know where to get this engine swap video i heard about later jimmyd

Coolant seal gave at 30k miles on a good reman with high compression.
0 miles on the new one, but that will change.. soon |
65k on original motor - coolant seal failure.
35k on street ported 2nd motor - coolant seal failure. putting in 3rd motor this week. Have 101,000 mile on chassis. new teflon encapsulated coolant seals. crossing fingers. Mike |
95k on close to stock motor. Apex seal gave under boost. Coolant seals were already starting to go.

68k on stock engine, 5k on crappy pineapple rebuild, now its running strong for the last 7k or so on an ASI racing rebuild.
Bought mine with 140K miles. It's bone stock, and the previous owner rebuilt the turbos. It cranked when we got it, but now it won't even start. I think it's bad compression. Should I go for the rebuild or buy a completely new engine?
after 140K I would say new engine
I had a GSL-SE runing strong at 165k before some cell phone using piece of F__king garbage makes a left in front of me while im up shifting to 3 going threw a straight greenlight
54K and still spinning on stock engine.
