How many high mileage FD3S are out there?
I started this thread in response to the low mileage FD3S. I think it's amazing that they can have such a low number but I want to see how many are really counting the miles up. Anyone with 200K+? How many motors? What kind of stuff have you had to do? What kind of mods do you have?
Just keeping life interesting. |
159 on mine. 90k on second engine. mainly reliability mods. only failed parts are 1 radiator, 1 alternator, 1 motor mount, and 1 window switch.
|
154 on mine
unknown motor, unknown turbos,...........hell, unknown everything(found it in a junkyard) runs like a raped ape |
I saw one at KDR a year ago that had over 200k on it's first engine. Dave said it was on its last legs, but it wasn't going to die anytime soon.
|
I had 108k on my original engine untill I blew it from over boosting. The front rotor still had enough compression to allow me to start the car and drive it 10miles to my parents house. The rear rotor had 0 compression as the detonation blew all three apex seals. Hmm not bad considering it's age and mileage. :)

I am kind of amazed that one had 200k on it's original motor. I guess it was just special. |
112K on mine.. personally im on my second motor. i know for a fact that my second is at the very least the 4th moter the car has had.
|
4!! The most I can ever remember hearing about is 6 in less than 50k miles and he still thought the stock fc ecu was sufficient for high boost!
|
My 93 has about 178k on the odometer and got a reman at about 105k. Just got rid of a first gen that had 220k on the odometer and I couldnt find any evidence of it ever being rebuilt, I imagine it was at some point but whoever did it used a front and rear housing and got them in the right spots!
|
I've got 151K on the chassis, less than 3K on the rebuilt engine.
|
210,060 miles on mine BABY!
Runs perfectly fine. 30K on second engine, first one lasted forever because it wasn't making full boost for a long, long time (I'm the second owner). |
144k on mine, engine replaced ~120k, still get people asking if its a new car.
A high mileage Rx7 is a good Rx7 because it means it actually runs ;) |
High mileage FD's are good because it proves they are fun to drive. And you're not afraid to drive one of the best cars ever made (my opinion).
I think high mileage is a better badge of honour than low mileage FD's. What's better? Leaving it parked in the garage or actually driving it? |
agreed.....one of my buddies had an FB with....ready? 287k...and yes it was on the original 12a....that fucker still revved to 8k on a daily basis.
|
My FC had 155k miles on the original engine when I sold it 2 years ago. It was still running strong...
|
93 touring reman motor at 88,000miles now 112,000. She likes to be driven fast and hard.
|
I have 119,000 on the original motor. Still runs perfect
|
130k, 300 miles on new motor.
|
this thread gives me hope that my engine has a chance at breaking 80k.
|
125,000km or 78,100 miles on my stock fd, all original motor/drivetrain.

I think high mileage is a better badge of honour than low mileage FD's. What's better? Leaving it parked in the garage or actually driving it? You make a good point. One of the car magazines recently had an article on an old 289 Cobra. The car was completly original and never restored. It looks all beat up and worn, but it still runs well. It gets more attention from people at car shows than the pristine museum quality examples. |
I just bought my second FD 2 weeks ago, my first one was 10 yrs ago but had to sell it after 2 years ( I'm glad that there is now a site such as this!!!)....
It has 159,000 on the chassis and less than 10K on the motor.... It was previously SpooledUP7's car.... https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=616248 https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=680695 Drives very smooth!!! It just needs a little TLC from the exterior side..:icon16: |
My 93 FD has 87k miles on it and runs really strong. It had boost issues when I bought it at 77K miles, 0 boost at 4500rpm. It was like that for a long time. It's fixed now. That probably will add engine life on the back end.

miles
149k on mine. second engine.
|
68k still orig engine.. many reliability mods
also was making no more than 4psi for a year from 65k-68k. yes i only put 3k miles on the car over the course of a whole year but I still made sure she got the revs she needed. |
