If your OMP is working properly, I don't see the point of pre-mixing. I have read that some drivers add a LITTLE bit of pre-mix if they are racing. Too much oil in the combustion chamber isn't good either.

29K miles on the first motor. made around 405 to 450 RWHP at 22 psi.]
|
Car has 138k, on its 4th engine with 15k on it. However the 3rd engine (mazda reman.) blew a side seal on the front rotor with 7k, due to a huge boost spike. Im getting ready to rebuild my old engine just to have as a spare.

139,000 Original engine. Replaced some seals (not a rebuild, $2400).
1994 PEP |
wow I was trying to get an average life of a motor and its so sparatic. I am going to take a large guesstimate here but it looks like a motor lasts around 40-50k miles. I hope my new rocket lasts a while...

75K on original engine and turbos, 93 VR Touring
|
last time i spoke with roger(hes from here in el paso) about 4 months ago he had 150,000 plus miles on his first engine still running strong with the stock turbos, he has a black 93 r1 and i have known him since 99 when i got my 3rd gen. but mine went out at about 80,000 miles but that was my fault over boosting.
|
25,000 miles first engine still going strong. :)
|
101,000 original engine. (don't know if already posted, sorry)

55k miles on 1st engine

Well, i have a about 13k on my 4th motor. Yeah, i have had some bad luck with motors. Original died at 105k, then next one overheated and blew up (stupid ass front mount intercooler on 110 degree day!). The third one blew because of too much ignition timing on my wolf controller. The apex seal exploded as though it was cut with surgical precision, 3mm seal at that. It had a perfect 1 inch by 1/8 inch chunk gone. Engine gone, but all housings ok and just resurfaced. I built the 4th motor myself, went back to 2mm seals and my street port was retained. IM very happy right now with the WOLF and how my car runs. Took alot of paitence, but works great. Get 21.5 mpg on the highway with my ported motor, not too bad either. 4th motor, 140k on the car, and an empty wallet. Such is life......
Graham (yes, this avitar is of my car, not just some picture i found on the internet) |
I got 13000Km on first engine might i add still going

The stats also point to the fact that newer (sub 50k) engines and older (more than 100k) cars seem to significantly more replacement than 50-99k cars. Here are the my quick computations: Cars under 50k on their first engine: 64.7% Cars between 50-99k on their first engine: 74.1% Cars with 100k more more on their first engine: 58.6% Total number of cars on their first engine: 68.7% So if I was going to interpret these results, I'd say that if an engine's going to go, it will either go quickly (within the first 50k) or due to age (100k or more). Those in the 50-99k range seem to have survived whatever issues may have plagued our poor rotary and probably have owners who watch for problems, hence they are the most reliable... |
105k on original engine ... still pulling like a schoolboy
|
I know a guy who has 138k on original motor. The car is stock in every way. The car is just a fun car to srive for this guy. He never puts his foot in it very hard.
|
bought the car w/ 93k
motor went at 94k as far as i know that was the stock motor so i wasnt to suprised 105k motor popped while passing one of rotorsports cars. still saving up money for the next one |
When I filled out this poll, there were 69% still on their first engine. It's not exactly a scientific poll, but still makes me feel a little better about owning an FD...

something you guys'll probably never see :)

heh, I'm not a troll really. I've been checking out 3rd gen RX7s for a while now, reading up on this website. Yeah, ever since the Fast and the Furious came out..... just kidding. I realized, though, that I'm not rich enough yet to buy a $20k car and put a lot of money into it too. There's a black 93 in Milwaukee for $19k with 60k miles or so but I'm probably better off sticking with Hondas until I can really afford a real sports car. See ya later guys, hope I didn't piss anyone off.

98k on 1st motor, 5k now on 2nd motor, doubt this one will last another 98k;)
|
140000 miles on the orginal engine and still going strong (knock on wood)
|
wow, i'm surprise so many people with 100k plus miles on first engine. same here, 101k miles. but it's about as fast as a civic :p:
|
65k, motor going, going, going. . . just about to take its vacation. Mazda Reman, here i come.
|
126k on first motor (changed it cuz i wanted to not cuz it popped)
4k on second. |
ok, my first engine lasted until 80k
I bought the car at 108k, and added some mods, along with a power fc, which came with the wrong maps, and my engine popped at 118k Its still in the shop getting my new engine. |
