You know need to drop anything to get to the motor mounts. Are you just replacing the mounts? If you are, here is a nice how to.

Remove the 2 14mm headed nuts from the bottom of the motor mounts(underside of subframe). Then jack up the engine/trans from underneath the transmission. Jack up the engine/trans until it touches the trans tunnel and is starting to lift the car.

Use a 3/8th drive ratchet and short 17mm socket to remove the 3 bolts on each of the motor mounts. Once these 3 bolts are removed from each motor mount you should have enough room to remove teh motor mounts and the arms they are attached to.

Can be done in about 10 mins with minimal effort.

FWIW, with my oil pan brace I didn't have enough room to remove the motor mounts without dropping the subframe.

If you need to drop the subframe, there are 6 nuts/bolts holding it to the car. You'll also need to unbolt the steering rack (4 bolts) from the subframe. The 6 subframe nuts/bolts and be tough to break loose if they have never been removed. Make sure to have some PB Blaster sitting around.

im actually pulling the motor, the 2 bolts going upward near the oil pan seem to do the job. anyone have preference as to pulling the motor with or without the trans?

..im no expert... but. im just gonna have to take a wild guess and say, I drank a little on the too much side. cant get the trans bolts off the w/o air tools. motor is almost out.... all in all i think i did about 1 hour of actual work. seems to be an easy ass job

RLaoFD 11-22-08 02:23 AM

you can definitely get the trans bolts off without air tools.

its 4am... ill go try.

I used a 3 ft breaker bar (aka the bar that attaches to my huge floor jack w/ a 14 mm craftsman wrench stuck into it)

I found out just putting the wrench in position and "negotiating" with a rubber mallet works too.
