How Bad is it to not have a Gas Filter in-Line of the MAP Sensor?
How Bad and are there any negative side effects of doing this short term? ANybody have experience with this?
|
Short term, shouldn't be any problems. Long term, I'd get one - oil and crap could foul the map sensor out. A good used one should be CRAZY easy and cheap to find.

Would one of these work as a filter for a boost controller like the profec? Cus mine is really dirty and its not listed anymore on greddy's website.
|
yes but i think the hose diameter is diff. if it fits it will work fine
|
I've seen the sensor go bad on cars that are missing the filter.

you can get vaccum hose adapters at any auto parts store to adapt things

sorry to stir this up.
but is a check valve and gas filter different? common sense says yes, but there is an arrow on the gas filter. Woud a check valve not be able to stop oil's? reason why I'm asking is, I blew into mine and it goes both ways even though theres an arrow on it - so I'm looking for a replacement and figured when I go to the auto store I would like to know this information before hand. |
Its don't believe its a check valve as the sensor reads both vacuum and boost. I too would like to know if there is another source other than the Mazda dealer for one.

I saw the arrow and it really made me wonder... cause I know the function of the MAP sensor... so it didnt make sense to me. I figured previous owner switched mine with a factory check valve(maybe why my boost hits 2psi and vacuum isnt consistant).
when I took mine off it blows out both ways and rattles something inside of it (guessed it was broken). The arrow is on there so I checked my manual and figured someone on the boards would know. |
I think the arrow is on the gas filter so that it doesn't get reinstalled backwards. Because if that happened the side toward the MAP would be dirty and foul the sensor anyway.
