Highway runner....
I dont track my FD but I have a touring modle and my mods are below. I am wanting to run 500rwhp. If I am running my stock touring oil cooler is this ok? Also if not can i get by with stock R1 duel oil coolers? Thanks

I know I can't spell. Edit: Ohh, my dumbass just read the first 3 words of your post.. I don't think you would NEED them. They would be nice though, used r1 coolers arn't too expensive anyway. |
plenty of people run the stock oil cooling system with large single turbo setups, mine is a touring, I daily drive mine and i have no problem running the stock radiator cooling system, a fmic, and the stock oil cooling system.

You seem to have some serious power potential there for a single oil cooler.
Now, if you honestly serious about not tracking your car and not driving it under high boost, load and RPM in sustained manner than a single oil cooler will be enough. What I mean in practice that if you simply going to have short bursts of acceleration, followed by cool down cruise that would be fine. If, however, you are really going to use that power and keep the boost and/or the RPM up high for, say, longer than 2 minute sprints than, you need some serious cooling improvement in oil over the single touring cooler. Where would be the best place to get a good used set? I checked the forum but didnt see any. Also posted that I WTB. Would like to get them before I break the engine down again to install new turbo kit. Thanks

Do any of you people posting that he doesn't need them even have an oil temp gauge?
You want to know if you need upgraded oil cooling? You install a gauge! I find it hard to believe that someone spending the money required to hit 500 rwhp would hesitate to spend a little money for better cooling! |
The title of this thread reminds me of teh Wangan for some reason.

BTW- I'm only pointing this out because I myself have a VERY similar setup and was told to expect anywhere around 400ish rwhp on stock ports with say 12-13 psi, which would be safe. Let me know. I'm interested to know if theirs something I'm missing or if you'll be doing something differently. Thanks. |
Oh and forgot to ask, but do you already have this turbo? If so, has it been tuned and dynoed?

I havent gotten the kit yet but I want my setup to be able to handle 500rwhp and in a few years plan on pulling the engine and doing a street port
|
As Rynberg suggested you need to get yourself an oil temp gauge.
As for your goal of 500 with a streetport later it's attainable just depends on what boost level you're going to run. My 500R hit 503 at 20psi with a rich tune. You'll definately want to run a second fuel pump, but otherwise we have similar fuel setups. All other aspects ignition, IC, exhaust, computer are different, so take my numbers in stride. -Nic |
well ordered my duel oil coolers from Gotham Racing this morning.....they are having a sale boys....jump on it.
So how do you like your 500r kit running 500rwhp?? have any quarter mile times yet? Is that on c16? Thanks |
^ Also interested in details from Broken09. My kit should be built in a few weeks. I'd like to know what mods you have that allowed you to attain those numbers? Thanks.

did u post the dyno sheet for the 503 rwhp run yet? i saw the one that was on lower boost and it looked like power dropped off significantly up top?
how do u like the turbo....seems there is alot of hype about it but noone is posting any numbers yet other than you....so please share your feeling with us. |
Other mods. RE V-mount, Crane Fireball Ignition, Microtech, Streetport, Midpipe, Apex GT-Spec.
I had the T3 35R before, then the T4, and with each upgrade I noticed a significant difference in power and how the car got up and moved, however, my spool has only changed about 300-400 rpm from the T3 to the 500R. Driving around on the street the car is a ton of fun. Plenty of low end power for stoplight to stoplight, but on the track the car is great to. Took it up to Gingerman a few weeks back and the response and power were great. I'm unable to find the 503 dyno right now, but I will look on my other pc, as I'm unsure of which one it was on. If you have any other questions let me know. -Nic |
Thanks Nik!!

for highway pulls i wouldnt think youd need to upgrade your oil cooler. though a nice used set of r1/2 dual oil coolers would be nice for peace of mind. but you should get an oil temp gauge anyways so you know what your temps are.
a little OT. when i went to japan with my friend we drove around c1 and wangan for a few hours watching the people race. it was awesome. saw a lot of spirt r's and gtr's. i got to drive a few different touge's also and his friends s15 :) |
