HELP!! A Scam?

Hey guys I am confused on this one, so help me out.

I found this fully loaded 94 FD on autotrader. I mean it was hooked up, and its for $9900. The seller says hes from NYC, NY but the car is in cali and will be shipped anywhere in the US upon payment for free. When I emailed the guy I got almost an automated response. I asked him for what mods were done to the car, what it came with, any problems with it, etc.

This is what I got in response.

Hello,

First of all, we like to inform you that the 1994 Mazda RX-7 is in excellent running and body condition never had an accident and there are no flaws on it or any other mechanical problems, never been smoked in it. There is no lien against the car and the car has not been salvaged. It has a clear title and it will be signed and notarized in your name as soon as the payment will be completed. The buy it now price is $9,900.00 including shipping costs anywhere in the continental US. There are no other costs regarding this transaction. The car is currently located in Los Angeles,CA.
You are going to have to look a long time to find it's equal.. look the photos over and you will agree.

Seems like you should be fine with the whole Square Trade deal. What I would do? Buy it. Send them a Bank Check, etc, with the VIN# on the check. Or, set up your OWN escrow account somewhere else. (Bank, online, etc.)

That way, if you get screwed, you don't lose your money. (Maybe the $50-$100 for escrow setup)

Yes

YES, it is a scam. I have seen this scam a lot on the internet. I am an IT professional with specific experience in internet scams. DO NOT give them your account numbers, passwords, banking info, etc. Also, if they ask you to 'wire' money somewhere DONT DO IT. PM me if you need more info.

thx

dont do it...to good to be true. It might be a picture before someone wrecked it or something. Besides, he is claiming 415RWP at 13 psi on stock twins???? show me anyone that has EVER hit that on stock twins. The closest ae the BNR stage 3, they hit just over 400 to the wheels, but at more boost.

I just went back to the link for the FD im talking about

look at this

http://autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ca...ce=&cardist=31

the black 94 rx7 with 80xxx miles on it for $9900 has magically transformed into a different car! More expensive, with less miles, from a person with a different email adress......but the same VIN # as the old one.

JM1FD3337R0302307

that was the vin # used in both ads. Can anybody run that # and so who it truely belongs to?

Tips and Trix

Just a FYI for all you guys to protect yourselves from internet scams:

-do not EVER wire money using western union
-never give out user names, account numbers, passwords etc.
-for all the 'internet' only companies out there trying to sell anything, always get a phone number, name and a PHYSICAL address.

For the scam listed above:

-find out their corporate offices address as well as head officer's names of the company
-get their main office phone number
-have them show you the car or tell them you have someone that will PHYSICALLY inspect the car wherever it is at BEFORE you send a dime
-have them show you their website
-if they do call you and english is NOT their first language, have them find someone that it is.

NEVER EVER SEND MONEY WITHOUT A GUARANTEE OR CONTACT INFO OR AUTHORIZED DOCUMENTATION. NEVER USE WESTERN UNION FOR MONEY TRANSFERS TO SOMEONE YOU DONT KNOW. ALWAYS CHECK BACKGROUND REFERENCES FOR AUTHENTICITY AND YOU CAN ALWAYS DO INTERNET SEARCHES FOR INTERNET SCAMS. GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND. GOOD LUCK GUYS.

Squaretrade

One more thing,

Square Trade is NOT an escrow company. They NEVER hold money. EVER!!!

Go to their website at www.squaretrade.com and look at their fraud section:

direct from Square Trade:

SquareTrade Never Takes Payment on Behalf of a Seller:
Scam emails will often request the consumer to pay via a money transfer service, such as Western Union or Money Gram, an escrow service, or by money order. BEWARE! SquareTrade will NEVER act as an escrow agent for a seller and will NEVER hold or transfer money on behalf of an auction or seller.

Claims of Large Insurance Backing Are Usually Fraudulent:
Scam emails often make false claims that the seller is backed by a large "protection account" or by 3rd party insurance or similar claims to make you feel safe. Verify such claims directly with 3rd parties.

Beware of Fake Websites:
Beware that scam artists often create fake websites to look exactly like trusted company websites that are linked to the scam emails. To help prevent being defrauded by such tricks, always directly type into your web browser the name of the business (e.g., www.squaretrade.com, www.ebay.com, www.paypal.com, www.amazon.com) when you are verifying information with a trusted website.

Verify Before You Pay:
If you have received one of these emails or are concerned about a seller, DO NOT pay until you have verified a seller's claims.
If claims relate to SquareTrade, forward the email and questions to spoof@squaretrade.com, and wait until a SquareTrade representative contacts you.
If the claims relate to a specific ecommerce website purchase, such as eBay, Amazon.com, Yahoo or craigslist.org, visit their website for further information and send suspicious emails or questions to their respective support teams (e.g., spoof@ebay.com, stop-spoofing@amazon.com, auctions-abuse@cc.yahoo-inc.com,abuse@craigslist.org). These companies might also have added buyer protection to cover some of your losses.

Use Secure Payment Methods:
We suggest NEVER using wire or money transfer methods, such as Western Union or MoneyGram, money orders or personal checks, when paying an unknown seller, as these forms of payment leave you with little or no recourse if the transaction is fraudulent. Credit cards generally offer the highest fraud protection for consumers. You should contact your credit card issuer for more information.

Use caution and common sense: "Too good to be true" deals are often fraudulent. Purchase responsibly and realize there are risks when buying online from unknown sellers.

Good luck.

Damn, good thing you checked it out before you made a big mistake. Sounded like a scam from the beginning. Then all the "poor" people of New Orleans, need money bs. Scam. I then saw the photos and that car is worth at least 35,000. especially with the 99 spec stuff on there. It is amazing what kind of scams are out there. I got jacked by a fake e-bay auction a couple of years ago for an NBA basketball jersey. Looked completely legit, turned out a hacker had pulled of a cool one and got away with my 80 bucks. You can never be too careful. Kiddslick, good looking out for everyone about internet scams.

Sorry to offended you but do you really believed a 400+ hp FD like that would cost under $10K.

Wake up...it's a dream.

Do this and you will know for sure:

Tell him/her you will be in LA with 10K cash tomorrow to buy the car and see what he/she say.

yeah that HAS to be a scam...

if you were to say offer a paypal deposit of $500 or so then say you would be on the next flight out to pick up and pay for the car in person, that guy would never respond back i bet

also, who would think that car is worth only 10k? if they want to scam someone maybe they should read up on rx7's and see what their worth

autotrader is a FREAKIN JOKE.

I think 80% of the ads listed in my area are scams.

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/search...873&x=124&y=11

look for the cluster of the 3 94 FD's.........3 different listings, 3 different people, with 3 different variatians on the info. But wat do you know? THEY ARE THE SAME CAR. Look at the pictures all 3 ad's advertise the same car in each of them hahah oh man autotrader got to get on top of this

Auto Traders full of scammers, I mean they list cars with tons of mods then when you e-mail them their all in Europe, hell I even had one tell me he was in England for 2 years, but gave me a vin for a fd registered with salvage title 3months ago. Hell even one slimy SOB said his son had a heart attack and he was over in Brittan and after a deposit would fly home. But then refused to do things the proper way. Had another say they would pay for shipping (over pay then have you send additional funds to someone else in western union) its all bs, if they wont meet you without $$ IT’S A SCAM
