Help: A crack at the spark plug hole..???

Hi..

I have just taking my engine apart and now i found some cracks around the spark plug hole inside the rotor housing. There are 1 crack in the first housing an 2 cracks in the second housing just around the spark plug hole..

They are very small but they are there... I think they are 1 mm long but my question is if that is normal...???

Does the engine work fine or should i find some new housings...???

I have 4 housings in spareparts and there are cracks in all of them...???

I hope someone can help me with that problem..

Thanx

Yeah showing pics can really help out a lot. Also, can you feel the cracks with your fingernail?

From what I've heard, that's pretty routine to have that. It has to do with the sharp edge around the plug hole and arcing of the spark. What some rebuilders do it so grind it down a little around the hole so it's not a sharp edge, but rounded to help that from happening.

Yeah more or less, just bevel the edge around the hole, it should suffice.

I have a friend whose dad had an 85 GSLSE and overtightened the sparkplug once and when removing for replacement the threads broke!! The crack was circular around the hole and brought the whole thing out with the sparkplug... He put it back the best he could and sold the car

Kind of like the Toyota truck my buddy bought. A routine spark plug change turned into a top-end engine dissassembly because the previous owner cross-threaded a spark plug. He was not too happy.

I've seen SOMEWHERE specs and info on cracking around plug holes. Like, if the crack is so long, you can't use it kind of deal.

Yeah, grinding the crack down a bit would probably do the trick. Big thing is that there's nothing for the apex seal to catch on - that could accelerate wear.

are these cracks caused by detonation?
