Auto or manual ? Try changing the tranny oil.

what mods do you have?. also get the precat off and put a down pipe on the car it will get a lot of heat out of the engine bay.

The center console tends to get hot in these cars. The rotary is thermally inefficient by nature and the restrictive stock exhaust with the precat makes matters works. Ditch the precat and replace it with a quality downpipe. On my old car I also pulled up the center console and the carpet under it and put down some adhesive heat barrier.

You can buy coolers from places like Summit Racing, Jegs, Racer Parts Wholesale, etc.. However, I'm not sure if you'll need a pump or not to make it truely effective.

The easiest and first thing to try would be to run a good synthetic fluid. In most cases, good synthetic oils drop the operating temperatures to tolerable levels.

The other thing to check is the condition of the rubber shift boot. That can age and crack and allow the heat from the transmission to come up underneath the center console.

Because you have an aftermarket cat you probably don't have any heat shielding on it. This plus the fact that your rubber shift boot is torn up will allow the hot air to rise into the tranny tunnel and heat things up. Replace the rubber shift boot and maybe add some insulation there. Heat wrap or jet coating on the downpipe will help a lot, so would adding a heat shield above your cat.

It has nothing to do with the transmission, so don't do anything to that. I've never seen any stock FD 5 speeds that needed a tranny cooler.

Also make sure you have all of the insulation for the shifter mechanism:
