Put in the koyo today. Reversed the mounts at the top so she sits down in there deeper. Put everything back in, checking to make sure the fans wouldn't hit anything when they came on (earlier thanks to the FC thermoswitch). Filled her up and burped her. Took her for a drive. Temps stayed low, no visible leaks. I pull into the driveway and pop the hood. I shut down and set the autotimer to ten minutes. The fans come on for the first time, and they are hitting something. I was able to spin the passenger side fan, and it's clear. So I'm assuming it's hitting the battery tray. Any ideas on how to fit the koyo in lower? It's as far down on the lower mounts as possible.

That's the thread I used to help me. I've got some washers. I'm going to see if I can raise the battery tray just a nut hair. My old man needs to borrow her tommorrow while his Mercedes is at the dealership.

 

The battery tray was fine. It was hitting the IC ducting. I used some washers to raise it a little. The fan blade had also contacted on the bottom of the shroud. Just one blade. None of the others would do it. Strange.

 

What's stranger is I had the *exact* same symptoms. One blade nicking the bottom of the shroud.

I have since pulled the Koyo, replaced the rubber posts the top hangs on with a bolt and a rubber washer (~ 1/4" lower) and drilled out the top hanger brackets to hang lower (another 1/4"). It didn't completely cure the fan blade issue, but the ASP large IC duct now fits and looks much better than before. As far as I can tell, it must be that the IC duct presses on the fan shroud just enough to distort it and cause the rub.
