Had some left-over adhesive gold heat shielding...

...so I did the underside of my UIM!

I only had about 1' x 1' left from when I did my intercooler end tanks.

I figured the bottom of the UIM would be a good place to use it. Now I just need one of those turblown LIM blanket shields...

Just thought I would share.

Cheers!

Thomas, I may be copying you on this particular venture, old chap. You can get this stuff through Summit Racing correct?

Supernaut 08-16-09 02:00 PM

Rich I'll be ordering a bunch this week. Do you want me to order some for you to? You can pay me in bnr raffle tickets.

theorie 08-16-09 02:03 PM

yes indeed rich. pegasus has it also.

i would say, for the UIM you probably want a a 12" x 18" piece to do the whole underside & throttlebody.

MOBEONER 08-16-09 05:09 PM

damn tom i can`t keep up with you. every time i read one of your threads you have another two lined up. I am too slow, i am still trying to figure out how to rewire my fuel pump....LOL

Or maybe another shield :)?

woah that's nice.

the only thing about something like that - would heat get trapped between the blanket and the manifold?

with the stick-on shielding, there are no gaps...

not sure if that makes a difference. i guess that looks pretty snug though.

either wya, that is one SEXY ASS wrap-around blanket though map props to you.

how about you send me one to test out??? :icon_tup:

FD3S2005 08-16-09 08:26 PM

any compairison with the shields and off on for both theorie and 1revvin7?

theorie 08-16-09 09:10 PM

well i just put it on today and i have yet to drive the car (other than moving it for the street sweep tomorrow).

i'll post the results (if any) when i get a chance to test it out.

Prometheus 08-16-09 09:20 PM

afgmoto1978 did the whole gold thermo foil, it works VERY WELL.

GoodfellaFD3S 08-16-09 10:29 PM

Hm, maybe gold foil *under* the turblown blankets? Damn, my stuff is already ceramic coated, when does it end ?

Is this reflective gold tape even proven to help?

Specter328 08-16-09 11:13 PM

It's looking good, next time I have my UIM I'll be doing the same. For now I've already got some gold in engine bay as well:

Supernaut 08-16-09 11:22 PM

Theorie said that he noticed about 10 degrees drop in intake temps. I had a chance to touch the tape after its been driven for a while. The IC was hot as hell but the tape stayed very cool.

Thanks for the pegasus link. I'll be ordering a bunch! If anyone from NJ wants to get in on this I'll order for them and we can split the shipping. You just have to pick it up from my place. Im in Northern Jersey, Bergen county. I'll be ordering on tuesday or wednesday.

theorie 08-16-09 11:59 PM

yeah i still get pretty bad heat soak on my LIM due to no heat shield on the turbos.

hopefully this helps the UIM stay a little cooler.

one step at a time...haha

staticguitar313 08-17-09 12:17 AM

Alright well have you noticed any differences in intake temps?

theorie 08-17-09 12:28 AM

still haven't driven the car!!! i got a parking space on the right side of the street for tomorrow and i don't want to give it up haha

FD3S2005 08-17-09 12:38 AM

cant you reach your hand to the lim and just slap some on there?

I dont blame you lol, i have to fight for my spot too. I'll be awaiting your results, also I agree on the LIM blanket, I'm considering one too. My UIM has nothing under it now and my IAT sensor is moved to the elbow so there not much to heat soak.

FD3S2005 08-17-09 01:34 AM

the problem with the blanket is that the freaken turbos have to come out to put it on, or pull the engine.. these are reasons i really wish i went single instead of the bnr stage 3s.

G's 3rd Gen 08-17-09 01:49 PM

It was amazing feeling the difference of Tom's intercooler pipes and intercooler end tanks. I am going to be using a bunch of this when my stuff is apart. G

RotaryRocket93 08-17-09 01:59 PM

On the underside of the UIM where that sensor screws in with the blue plug... Thats the Air intake temp sensor correct? Sorry for the hijack on the Thread but I keep mixing the connectors up and I have not seen my car in 6 months... Broke a connector on the harness but I think it was the one for the ICS which should be the one on the backside of the UIM between it and the firewall...

GoodfellaFD3S 08-17-09 03:03 PM

ISC connector is oval shaped and white, AIT connector is square shaped and black :)

existanzrx7 08-17-09 09:14 PM

How does this stuff stick and also how do you cut it so perfect? A+++ awesome work
