Guage Cluster Chrome Trim

The chrome around the guages is really faded and looks like crap. What could i do fix this. Im thinking brasso or something.

Aeka GSR 12-28-05 08:42 PM

mine look like shit too, the plastic chrome looks like it is peeling off.

trini 12-28-05 08:58 PM

i tried a metal polish like brasso might even be brasso but it took off the crome completly. so dont try that. luckily i only did it on a small part. ..

phinsn98 12-28-05 09:04 PM

It's not metal guys, it's a plastic finish that looks like chrome. You can remove it, paint it or just buy a new one.

DMoneyRX-7 12-28-05 09:04 PM

thanks for the heADS UP ON THE brasso. What should i use then?

areXseven 12-28-05 09:28 PM

Nothing you do will ever bring it back to it's original condition. I replaced mine with a new cluster. It makes a huge difference!!

TurboTagTeam 12-28-05 09:30 PM

Haha...Mine is doing the exact same thing. I think I'm just gonna paint it black.

DMoneyRX-7 12-28-05 09:37 PM

Wow, that sucks. You cant buy just the chrome trim. No polish ne thing like that will fix it?

krackerx7 12-28-05 09:39 PM

I believe you can get new ones with the plastic lenses for $80 i think, thru malloy mazda

Yep, last I heard it was ~$65 but prices may have gone up since then.

Railgun 12-28-05 09:43 PM

Yeah...that's what I did. You can just get the plastic cover which has the chrome bezels on them.

DMoneyRX-7 12-28-05 10:19 PM

Nice, thats probably gonna be on the bottom of my to do lists. More important things to do.

trini 12-28-05 10:26 PM

No problem dmoney. i wished i had asked before i decided to play mcguiver.
im willing to try to paint it. there must be a crome paint somewhere but how do you take off the rings themselfs without breaking anything?

purerx7 12-28-05 10:31 PM

yah last I checked it was 65 from malloy, I forgot the part number though.

polyfc 12-29-05 11:33 AM

this is a dumb question so i apologize, i know we get a good deal from malloy but is there any specific thing we have to say to get the good deal or just call and when the know the parts for an rx7 they give you the deal?

travisorus rex 12-29-05 01:52 PM

Mine took a shit long before I even bought the car...In any case, I have always wondered if the rings are removable or are they parts of the cluster?

If they are removable, you could probably get a machinist/machine shop to make some new ones out of aluminum. Then they could be; polished, anodized, powdercoated or painted.

They always say "The RX7 club price is..." so no I don't think you need to mention the secret passphrase "fuck you Ray!". :rlaugh:

DaleClark 12-29-05 01:59 PM

I don't think the rings are removable - they're part of the clear plastic face of the gauges. Big thing with those trim rings is to just leave them alone - don't scrub them with Armor-All and crap.

Nothing special to get a deal from Malloy - just talk to Ray, and he'll get you the right part at a fair price.

Dale
