Grounding-thickest wire best?
Going to add replace my grounds thicker the wire the better or how about have you done it

I myself see no difference between 8G and 12G, so going any bigger than 8g seems like a waste of money. Im no expert, just my .02 =o) good luck.

the thicker the wire, the less resistance, the better the ground.

I used 4ga on my DIY ground
I used Damian's setup as a guide. Search and you'll find his writeup. |
The large diameter only affects resistance when the wire is carrying a lot of current.
Except for the ground between the starter/battery, and alternator/battery, there simply should not be large currents in the ground wires. Since most people add their ground wires in addition to the stock wiring, it's still not a big deal unless the stock wires are damaged. All the other grounds can be substantially smaller. The kits you see will use the same size wire because it's easier to make and easier to sell. Dave |
Thanks.

Just make sure you have a really low-resistance wire and you will be fine.
|
Just find yourself some 8ga wire and make a few extra connections and that should be plenty.

Dave copper wire de rates in mV/A/m. so the longer the run the more potential drop you will get. The smaller the core cross sectional area the greater resistance and the lower current rating. Scott |
Clean-up the grounding points/posts/area and then "preserve" it, otherwise your new ground-wire could behave just like your old one.

preserve it? with like vaseline?
