Grounding Problem/Electrical System
 

Hello FD3er's

I m on my 3rd battery, I've just replace the alternator
(so it brand new), but something is causing my battery to drain.
It drains to the point that I can not recharge the battery anymore.

I have a custom Clifford Alarm System
and a custom Sound System. I also have
the fan running for another 2 minutes after
the car is off.

Any suggestions for the fix...Thank you in advance

3rd battery, changed alternator, your floundering. My first car, many years ago I did something similar, just one battery though.

Is your belt good as in no cracks, and tensioned correctly?
after that, any other gizmos not working, fix them. Typical rx-7 drains include the glove box light staying on. Search battery drain in the forum.

So your battery dies when you turn the car off? With a voltmeter, put your leads on the battery and it should read +14V DC. Test in AC voltage the same way and it should be really low, if not, your voltage regulator is bad and you're sulfating your plates by charging with AC voltage. If the AC voltage is really low, then your alternator should be fine.

With your voltmeter, test the battery periodically. If it is reading lower over time, then you have a parasitic drain.

this is wrong on so many levels.....

to check for a drin put a volt meter in series with the disconnected neg battery cable and the battery

measure the dc amp draw with all doors shut, key out etc...

make sure to not touch the pos and neg terminals when you have your leads in the amp position as it will blow the fuse on your meter

I don't recall the glove box light getting power without the lights being on.

Also, out of both my FD's, I have had the same bad luck. If they sat for a few days they were both dead. Lame sauce. I bought a trickle charger.
