Greddy v-mount? Anyone?

So it's been a long time since a thread has come up on this and the last time it seemed like no one had any info what-so-ever about it. Just a bunch of opinionated comments a speculation - no real info.

So purely out of curiosity, now that some time has gone by, has anyone installed, used or even SEEN this kit?

The only thing I could find other than the brief info on their website was this one pic from the re-extreme blog:
https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PD_2dkzoA...0707_GV_08.jpg

So I'm curious.. Does anyone actually have any info on this kit?

Mazderati 02-28-14 01:44 PM

Also interested in hearing about fitment and impressions. That's the best picture I've seen so far.

This particular v-mount set up seems like the best off the shelf kit for the simplicity and directness of the plumbing alone. I've looked at photos of the RE-A, Knightsports, and Panspeed kits and they all loop the plumbing around the engine bay in a way that seems unnecessarily complex. While other v-mount kits cross intercooler piping over top the core, Greddy keeps that area free of obstruction. Which seems like a no-brainer if incorporating a vented hood to maximize cooling.

cool looking kit. id love to run it on my stock twins

Johnny Kommavongsa 02-28-14 02:54 PM

nice looking kit, looks like its around $2500 for the full kit.

Bryan Jacobs 02-28-14 03:06 PM

I had the cast 99 spec crossover pipe from that kit, just sold it. Nice piece.

ptrhahn 02-28-14 03:27 PM

It is a good looking kit. One of the nicest executions I've seen, along with the original Knightsports kit.

wutangben 03-01-14 03:29 AM

ugh, shopping for intakes for my BNRs, the only ones i like are the ones that come with this v-mount....

i almost want to shell out for the kit. i wonder what lead time/shipping is.

Bryan Jacobs 03-01-14 05:50 AM

hopefully they keep it in stock in the U.S.

Jason 03-01-14 09:36 AM

They typically don't stock that in the US. Special order item from Japan.

You can get them separate eh? Greddy airinx intake kit. But the filters are really bad so I would recommend changing them. It's like 350

What does "typically" mean? Are you suggesting that there might be people who have seen it and can say a few words about it?

no, i meant shell out for the entire v-mount

Fd3BOOST 03-01-14 08:30 PM

My buddy Sasquatch has this kit in his fd. I'd get pics for you but the problem is that he was recently abducted by a UFO while he was visiting his uncle Mr. Leprechaun at the Loch Ness.

Maybe next time.

Nice, I'm very strongly considering this, so please post some info. Where did you order from, nengun?

Mazderati 03-02-14 10:31 AM

Priced out through Nengun the kit was around $3,000 delivered. Wonder if there's enough interest to get a group buy done.

purerx7 03-02-14 10:43 AM

We have imported several kits, used they run close to $2,000. Quality was top notch from what we saw. On par if not superior to the KS kits.

Was the ic core more like the greddy front mounts or more like the Garrett cores? Like.. Bar and plate or tube and fin I think is the question

GB would never work.

purerx7 03-02-14 11:34 AM

IMO the greddy FMIC wasn't anything special, the quality of the core is significantly better along with the welds. It is just a better made kit, and it should be, MSRP was close to $3800 when first released.

Yeah that's what I meant cause the fmic was really never good. I heard someone say it has the same heat exchanging capacity as an oven mitt lol. But it sounds and looks considerably better which is good. Fmic is old technology. Probably good for its time but dated now

Heh. Probably not. But in case others are interested, I'd commit.

Rotary Extreme said the following about the Greddy V-Mount core:

"Greddy uses tube and fin, still a good set-up but ment more for front mount or direct airflow going through it. I have seen greddys tube and fin in person and the internal of the tubes are nicely packed with cooling fins. the greddy core is a good core."

Mazderati 03-02-14 12:08 PM

purerx7 - Are you able to compete with Nengun on a new kit?

I read that too but I don't think it's entirely true. I actually doubt they have actually seen the kit in which case how would they know? I'm thinking they just assumed they would use the same core as all the other greddy units which is quite a bit inferior now a days. This was released in 2010, I'd think there would be some pretty big improvements over early 90s stuff they have.

Mazderati 03-02-14 12:54 PM

Greddy literature says the kit uses a Type 19 intercooler core. RHDJapan describes the Type 19 core by saying, "The intercooler has tube-type cooling passages and off-set inner fin cooling passages for an extremely lightweight and efficient setup." Sounds like it is tube and fin. Trust GReddy Type 19 Intercooler Core - RHDJapan

Anyone know about the differences in part numbers? There is 12040700 that doesn't include the air intake pieces, but I'm not completely sure about the difference in part numbers 12040701 and 12040702. Looks like anyone using an Efini y-pipe wants part number 12040702?

Ah solid detective work! I think you're probably right on that one. It's tough when there's so little information.

And yes there are 3 versions. One that has a coupler hookup to the non-efini y-pipe, one that is a bolt on to the efini y and another with no intakes or hot side piping for people with single turbos

0110-M-P 03-03-14 09:47 AM

All Type 19 refers to is the size of the core (410mm x 266mm x 115mm). The type of core is Spec-R HG, where HG refers to the special chemical polishing that is applied to the end tanks (I'm assuming HG stands for "high gloss).

Mitchocalypse 03-14-14 03:40 PM

Yeah I just ordered this kit as well. It's made to order an should take a month and a half.

I'll report back when I get it

Mazderati 03-15-14 11:43 AM

Who'd you end up ordering through?

Mitchocalypse 03-15-14 02:46 PM

Nengun.. By far the best price. And also the only place I found that was able to get the kit without the intakes and hot side piping.

wutangben 03-15-14 09:05 PM

Mazderati 03-15-14 09:30 PM

Looking forward to first-hand impressions.

Yeah same here. I'll post decent pics. It just blows my mind how this part has been out for 4 years and there isn't a single review or forum member that has it. It's just a big mystery kit but hopefully that can is opened now

wutangben 03-24-14 09:53 AM

Driftfc3s 03-24-14 01:03 PM

I am also ordering this kit for my Spring cooling project. I will also post detailed photos and post them in this thread once it comes in.

Mitchocalypse 03-24-14 01:57 PM

Well that's hardly fair.. Post more!

wutangben 03-24-14 03:06 PM

Should have more next week. Had to delay the shipment so we could throw some other things with it. It's shipping out Wednesday from Japan, should take about a week.

wutangben 04-03-14 12:14 PM

got 2/3 of the kit in today. the radiator and condensor are shipping separately.

my phone is out of room, so can't take any quick pictures. will try to take some this evening once things calm down.

the intercooler is tube and fin. it's smaller but also thicker than I anticipated. the filters are a lot smaller than I expected as well.

pretty excited to mock everything up, but waiting on that third box.

wutangben 04-03-14 06:26 PM

said it came with a FEED AST. not sure if that's what this is or not.

wutangben 04-03-14 06:28 PM

for a used kit from japan, i'm pretty surprised there's really only 2 bent intercooler fins, and they're hardly even bent.

will post the rest of the pics once the third box arrives.

Fd3BOOST 04-03-14 08:01 PM

This looks pretty good.
So how'd you get a used kit?

wutangben 04-03-14 08:29 PM

yahoo auctions

Mitchocalypse 04-04-14 01:13 AM

Looks actually really awesome so far.

I'm wondering.. Would the rad be the same one that retails for like 1000 usd? That's like the only rad I know greddy makes. Pretty impressive how complete this kit is and how it works with twins and ac etc..

And looks like its in very good condition!

wutangben 04-04-14 08:31 AM

from greddy's literature:

stock 310x530x21
greddy racing radiator FD3S 315x531x48
xl greddy racing gt-r r32 radiator 355x531x48

(comes with the R32 GT-R radiator)

Yeah that piece alone has an msrp of 1100. Crazy!

Now get that kit on the car

wutangben 04-04-14 12:33 PM

will probably be another week before the third box shows up, and then i'll know exactly what i'm missing (if anything). i have a feeling it might be short a couple of brackets, but luckily there's a pretty detailed parts list that shows the bracket shapes, so whatever I don't have, I should be able to have made.

something to note, and maybe this is common knowledge, but the quality of this elbow was a lot nicer than my old GReddy elbow. definitely less rough edges, better casting, slight more defined flange shape. less weirdness around the logo. maybe they've changed their production methods over the years, but this one is noticeably more "polished" so to speak, when compared next to my old one.

Mazderati 05-06-14 09:14 AM

Anyone with pictures, details, or impressions?

Fd3BOOST 05-06-14 09:38 AM

Did the other parts show up yet?
I was wondering about this last night.

Monkman33 05-06-14 11:17 AM

I really like the look of this kit.

Any impressions and opinions?
