GReddy Racing TI vs. HKS Carbon TI
I'm only wanting to compare these two exhausts. I searched the 3rd gen forum but couldn't find a shoot-out between these two specific exhausts.
Currently I have a Racing Beat dual-tip on my FD (along with a high-flow cat, and a high-flow pre-cat welded into a Pettit downpipe). I like the Racing Beat exhaust, it's clean, quiet, but I'm looking to put on something a little more "after-market" with a different tone. On my previous FD I had the HKS Carbon TI exhaust. It looks great (the tip is a little big...) and it sounds like a rotary should, but now I'm wondering abuot the GReddy Racing TI exhaust... Here's the specs: GReddy Racing TI http://rx-7.com/store/rx7/images/GRe...back_large.jpg Here’s the lightest catback ever made for an RX-7. Weighing in at 7.8lbs this system is about 1/4 the weight of the original. This system features all-titanium construction. Tubing, cannister, flange, tip, everything titanium. One look at the welding and you’ll swear it’s a work of art, not an exhaust system. This is a 3" straight through system designed for excellent power. The cannister is large enough for good dampening with a deep resonant sound. Cost: $619.00 HKS Carbon TI http://www.rx7store.net/photos/hkscf-2.jpg Special Edition HKS Carbon / Titanium Hi-Power Exhaust systems are available for certain popular applications. These exclusive versions of the Hi-Power Exhaust consist of a carbon fiber wrapped stainless muffler shell, a 120mm titanium tip, and polished stainless steel piping. Cost: $535.00 So, it looks like the GReddy is all titanium and the HKS only has a titanium tip. They both look very similar except the HKS has the carbon fiber wrapped around the canister. Can anyone compare the sound of the two? The seem like they would be very similar because of the construction and dimensions. |
I have the hks carbon TI, as you said it sounds awesome. I've heard the greddy TI before on a single turbo FD, its LOUD!
|
The Greddy Ti is actually all titanium while the HKS Carbon has a carbon wrapped can and a titanium tip, the rest of it is regular steel. For that alone, I'd go with the Greddy. Not to mention I've seen someone lift the Greddy with literally their pinky finger, which is just cool. :)
|
Plus the hks doesnt cost that much. Its more like 480 brand new
|
i would get the greddy ti
|
the greddy can be bought new for 599.00 I too just had this SAME decision to make...I am going with the HKS carb-ti
|
Also, think about the look that you want for the car. The HKS unit comes out more angled to the side of the car while the Greddy units are typically pointed straight back.
Sounds trivial, but for me I liked the angled look. |
JIC titanium ftw ;)

How much do the HKS weigh? With the stock cat-back weighing almost 35lbs (feels the same as my RB duals), you could save about 27lbs on the rear end from just a catback. I'm assuming both of these are pretty loud though, maybe a resonated high flow cat would lessen the sound.

I think the pic you are reffering to, was of me. When i bought the Greddy Titan catback, i took a pic for the 3rd gen section of me holding it up with my thumb and pinky to show how light weight it is. :)

does anyone have a behind-the-car shot of the GReddy Racing TI installed on the car?
i know what the HKS carbon TI looks like installed, but haven't seen what the greddy looks like... |

I have the Greddy Ti on my car. I have a down pipe a stock cat on right now. The exhaust is not loud with my set up. The Ti is 3" piping. Hks I think is 2.5" piping. The problem with the Ti is that finding a mid pipe to match the 3" piping is hard to find in titanium. I am still looking to find one.
I will try to take apic this week an load it up. |

Were you the one that weighed it as well? IIRC it weight in at around 7 lbs. right?
It's on the car now, so i can't weigh it again unfortunately. I know it was light as hell, if that helps any. way lighter than the other exhaust in question, the HKS Carbon with TI tip. |
I have the GReddy Ti and its awesome! It does weight 7.8lbs. The sound is great also.
Great choice overall. :) |

no offense to the carbon TI guys cuz the exhaust sounds great but its basically is an over glorified HKS hi power. i would go with greddy TI
|
thanks guys,
i think i am going to go with the GReddy Racing TI. it's a litle more expensive but i think i'll be happy with it. besides, since i've had the HKS in the past, i can compare them and if i'm not happy, i'll sell the GReddy to get another HKS. |

I don't know about the Greddy TI but I used to have an HKS carbon TI and I wasn't disappointed at all.
|
I check the wieght of the Ti with a shipping scale and found it to be 10 lbs with the hard wear and gasket that come with the exhuast.
|
I would like to see pics of:
Greddy Ti Tanabe Ultra Medallion JIC Ti That would be a great comparo. |
