Great Idea

Alright guys ive been reading stuff on the forum for a few months now and i'm always seeing the same ol posts... How much power will i gain with an intake, downpipe etc... So why dont you guys in the know just make an average HP gain chart type thing for your basic upgrades IE dowpipe, intake, catbacket etc... and have a mod make it a sticky. I'm sure it would cut back on the amount of annoying posts.
just a thought

They kinda did, its called SEARCH ;)

There would be to much argument over whats right and what not. You would have to specify intake temp and stuff like that.

I think it's a good idea. Simple "known" generalized forumlas could be used to help with the specifics.

If anyone remembers the Stillen catalog a while back, they listed expected gains for many popular import hot rods, 2nd and 3rd gens included. Very nice except for the supra out modded the 7 in nearly every way.

searching is fine and dandy but it would be much easier just to be able to pull up a chart of generic specs to give a good idea.

[start rant]
you would think so right?!
nothing will stop a person from posting a question. even if they KNOW there is a search function AND an archive section.
they think they are going to get an answer quicker/easier by postng THE SAME GOD DAMN QUESTIONS OVER AND OVER AND OVER rather than doing a search. this does not go for just HP numbers, it is with everything. do these people REALLY think they are the FIRST person to ask questions like "do i need to upgrade my ecu?" on a board with over 20,000 members?
i will stop now. [/end rant]:crzyeye: :cursing:

oh wait....
but then these same people get mad when other members give them no answer ("come on...what nobody knows")
or give them a cocky answer ("why do you have to be so mean...i did search and i couldnt find anything" )

here is a great example. i did not have to search for this. there is at least one thread like this on every page.

not only does he state that he KNOWS this question has been asked/answered, but his vry next reply is ANOTHER question that has been answered/asked a billion times.

Stop posting "Use the search" replies!

While we're on the subject, I have a pet peeve, and a request regarding searches. If someone asks a question that's been asked a zillion times before, and you don't feel like answering it, would you PLEASE just ignore the thread? Posting a reply that says "use the search function" is a waste of time and space. Virtually everyone knows there's a search function, but some people just won't use it. If it bothers you to read the "common question" posts, don't read them.

Here's the problem- I do a search for something that's a fairly common problem, look over the list of hits, and see a topic that asks my exact question. I think- great, it has a number of replies too. Now I click on the topic, only to be greeted by a page of "use the search" replies, followed by a page of posts heckling the guy who asked the question. By the third page, someone usually feels sorry for the person who asked the question, and they answer it. If it only happened occasionally, that would be OK, but for a common topic, there are more useless replies than anything else.

OK, that's off my chest, so now I can run for cover from the replies this will get :p:

Cheers,

no, you are right. i am not going to argue that. but maybe you can start your searches from oldest date to present. maybe this will eliminate all these kinds of threads from popping up first.

as much as everyone hates it when newbies ask the same questions over and over and don't search... in my limited experience the rx7 forum is MUCH nicer to these types than other boards. my friend is looking into getting a wrx, and he posted a dumb newbie question and didn't search and my god, those guys were merciless. as for the original purpose of the thread... that's a good idea, but the execution would be difficult, like mentioned before, of course everyone doesn't agree on standardized numbers. maybe from now on whenever someone asks " how much hp will i gain with intake and catback?" we can all reply and say we don't know and ask them to please install them and let us know how it goes :)
