Got a TroubleSHooting problem

ok... a local FD owner had his car in storage for about 2 years maybe 3 i forget...

anyways it had a leaky oil pan when it went in.... when the owner takes it out for the first day it starts right up and he SAYS he put oil in it... he said he put a quart in but i dunno if he even checked the level..... he is kind of a non car guy.... but anyways....

the car drives fine the first day....

2nd day he goes to start it and the car is having some problems so he calls me

i go over there and check the car out and it starts up ok... a lot of white smoke @ startup but it goes away when the car warms up

car idles even and fine...

go take it for a drive

it wont take any load

if u step on the gas at ANY rpm while in gear it just falls FLAT on its face... it doesnt stall but it sure does take a ****

its not RPM based because u can hold it in 1st gear to like 5krpm and its fine as long as u dont apply much load... but as soon as u go past like partial throttle the whole car just nose dives...

also im pretty sure u can hear the turbos scraping the compressor inside the housing.... when ur pulling away from a stop

so ive never driven an FD with blown turbos but does that sound about right?

also he had some mice living under the intake manifold so im thinking perhaps they chewed through some lines... but the car drive fine the first day it was out

after the 2nd day he took it to the mazda dealer (i know i know) and they changed his oil for him (so i was never able to see if it was low on oil that first day causing his turbo bearings to be starved for oil)

soooo any ideas? i told him the turbos are probably shot but he didnt want to beleive me... i figure with a couple posts from you guys he would be more inclined to take my word that he startved the turbos of oil

Sounds like limp mode. Limp mode kills the engine anytime it starts to get boost.

The smoke is another issue. How much smoke are you talking about? Thick white smoke is probably oil, steamy white "smoke" is coolant.

what color was the smoke? blue=oil, black=gas, white=coolant

you should beable to smell the coolant pretty quickly!

in anycase, i say it would be in limp mode, reset ecu and retest asap.

as for what makes it go in to limp mode, who the hell knows haha. could be any thing including not starting car in over 2 years

If it has been sitting for a long time just try disconnecting the battery for a min or so and reconnect. I've seen FDs run like this after they've been jump started after sitting for a long time.
