Got Duct - Show your pic!

I just got a greddy smic and am planning on using my modified stock intake. I like the clean look of the stock crossover and am currently modifying the stock ic duct to accomodate the full heigth and width of the greddy.

I'm using aluminum sheetmetal and another benefit is the stock air intake cover will cover up any "unsightly" aluminum work.

I'm interested in seeing others work. I've seen many crushed fiberglass boxes and other approaches. If you have something you are proud of I'd love to see it.

Likewise if you know of another approach I should try let me know.

I'll post pics of my IC ducting when I finish.

u can use the pettit SMIC plastic air duct with the greddy.

Crushed fiberglass ducting?!?! Please elaborate... I was thinking of making a fiberglass intake... it sounds like this may be risky?!?

thanks... (re: pettit).

I saw someones fiberglass efforts and the piece was painted and all the paint was chipping off + the owner looked like he leaned on it er something crushing it.

It looked like a bad head of lettuce jammed up there...

I've been planning on doing this for some time now but never got around to it. I even have a '96-'98 IC duct and inlet pipe laying around waiting to be hacked up. Let us know how it goes.

I just finished my install with pics. I'm going to start a new thread that is more appropriately titled - as I have some questions as well.

eurautodave 12-29-02 08:04 PM

check pictures from my thread 944 intercooler installed.

eurautodave 12-29-02 08:06 PM

that was supposed to be a link

Brentis 12-29-02 08:22 PM

still don't see the link.

Here's my finished pics. Somehow(one?) the post was deleted with my pics. Comments/questions are welcome.

What kind of piping is needed to install the Greddy SMIC ? Will I need a Greddy elbow or what ? TIA.

forcefed1 01-20-03 07:24 AM

well you're in luck.
I recently did my own CWR style install. the only thing left for me to do is the intake duct. I have been working on a plug (replica of the final part) and this weekend I finished the plug and did the layup for the mould. once the mould is done Ill be making a part from it.
Ill post a few pictures of my work so far. The pictures are big So im only going to post a few.
keep in mind this is a work in progress. the unique thing about my duct, is that it pulls air along the entire length of the intercooler. all the others I have seen only pull air from the drivers side. I was able to do this because I lowered teh front of the radiator 3/4" and relocated the relay box.

2nd layer of mould setting uphttps://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...postid=1420025

forcefed1 01-20-03 08:50 AM

I used epoxy to make my mould and the plug os made using 2" polystyrene foam I bought from Home Depot.
I bought the composite materials from Aircraft Spruce.
as of today the mould has a gel coat and 2 layers of fiber finished.
later today Ill cut cardboard and epoxy it and another layer of fiber into the mould to make it more rigid.
Since it's only a duct Im not going to get too crasy reinforcing it.

then Ill be cutting the mould into 2 to pull it off teh plug. after that Ill make some flanges and do a 2 part layup of the duct inside the mould. when I finish my part will be a replica of the plug I made from foam. It'll have a smooth finish like the glossy black plug. At first Im going to make a fiberglass one. then some day i'll make one with carbon. After I have the mould making more is easy.
