Is this a good thing to shoot flames???
goodfellaFD3s has a post about finally shooting flames out of the exhaust.........now it certainly sounds cool and it's got to be impressive as you blow past someone but......is this a good thing...Does this cause any harm to your system..........i understand it's from running rich at deceleration, right?..... how about the plastic rear bumper...........does it get torched???? I'm about to get my apexi in the mail anyday (right Jason???) Should i try this too???
comments please........... |
Shooting flames won't harm anything. I've been doing it for 2 yrs now. :D
|
More of a fun thing vs a necessary thing. Looks cool as crap at night...I just started shooting when I got the mp on.
|
It doesn't toast the bumper?????

It can toast the bumper on highly-tuned rotaries running large ports and large turbos. These motors will have more overlap, more extra fuel, which will produce larger and longer-lasting flames. There are metal plates you can buy or make to "protect" your bumper.
The only really "negative" thing about it is that it's a clear sign to cops that you don't have a cat. |
what happens if you run that rich with a cat in place???
??FIRE???? |
how do you shoot out flames? what do you need? what do you do? thanks

You need an open exhaust: dp, mp, catback. Then it's a function of how rich you're running. I used my Power FC to begin the flamage :)

i'm curious right now i have a DP and catback w/ stock cat in place. But my car backfires still. pretty solid popping. can u still see flames even with the cat on with just that?
|
Like GoodfellaFD3S said, you will need an open exhaust to shoot flames. If you put a cat in place, it is restricting the flow and you will not be shooting flames
|
ANY PICS??
Anybody have any pics shootin' flames???
|
Well I just picked up my car today from getting the Pettit DP put on and I already have a Pettit CB and I had a friend follow me on the way home, at night. He said when it backfired a tiny burst of flamage came out so I know I am on the right track, all I need now is an ECU and MP, damn I cant wait to shoot huge flames, lol, later guys! Oh and the DP made a world of difference, I couldnt believe the responsiveness once the clutch went out in 2nd, picked right up at full boost, real nice!!
|
ANY PICS???
Hey goodfella do you have any pics to post??? I'd love to see what this looks like.........
|
its not an rx but you get the idea

I'm working on getting pics, but I've been working 18 hr days lately b/c of what happened at the WTC (I'm working now...came in at 1am) and don't have much time... Rich |
what parameters in the Power FC do you change and to what values do you change it to?
|
Originally posted by thatoneguy what parameters in the Power FC do you change and to what values do you change it to? I only set mine to 8k w/elec load. I'm still experimenting, but I should be able to blow flames with the parking lights on and turn them off to go into "stealth mode." Btw, nice avatar. Did you pin the speedo like that? I backed off at 170 b/c of traffic :). I know there's a pic of Steve Kan's car on the dyno w/the speedo pinned. |
AWESOME PICS!!!!!!!!
OK, that is pretty cool:cool: ........... thanks for the pics.........anymore out there......... keep 'em comin'

just another question from my previous....Do i have to do mp with the Dp and catback to shoot flames out. or is it possible to do it with a high-flow cat like the N-tech.
|
I've been told that it has to be a MP to shoot flames.
|
Hey, i have a dp, mo and cat, but its the rb dusl, can i be shootin flames with stock AT ECU?
|

i hav an auto... and i want to shoot flames tooo... :) Mods: dp, catback, and the mdpipe i clear out the honeycomb... wat ever u call dat??
|
Flames only show how many BTUs are NOT going into power to accelerate the car. Similar to "burnouts:" inefficiency converting energy into acceleration of mass. As ex-injunear, very unappealing to me. Have fun, though, folks.

hey sikopathX, I have an RB single, dp, and am about to install a mp. I'm pretty sure that the rb exhausts will shoot flames even though they seem a bit more restrictive than the straight through style mufflers. I recall seeing pics before of cars with rb exhausts spittin flames, but I'll let you know how it goes.
|
Is it necessary to change the settings on the pfc to shoot flames? Is it possible to flame with the base pfc maps?
|
ok so basically all i would need then is a dp and mp since i already have a catback and then i can shoot fireballs hmmm if so thanks everyone my buddy wouldnt tell me how he got his to shoot flames but now i know
|
just rev the hell out of your engine then let off and it should fire right up. I rev mine to like 7 let off till like 5 hit it a couple more times and i get some nice ones out both pipes. Great for when you have a ricer in a civic tailgaiting you. I can't hardly go to a party with out someone asking is the 7 here? Rev it up lets see some fire.

Does anyone with a RB dual tip cb shoot flames? Can you see two individual ones? :D:
Does anyone shoot flames without tuning their ecu to do so? It seems like with the rotary-rich a/f ratios you could shoot big flames w/o messing with the tuning of the car... kyle |
