ESTIMATE FOR MAZDA REMAN MOTOR (stockmotor)
its going run out the door around $3500.00 to $3800.00 out the door

jasonred3rdgen 12-01-01 02:01 PM

that is way too much!

Bacon 12-01-01 02:22 PM

yea both prices are high, 5k,, is rediclous, unless their giving you all new housings, if thir not you can get the same motor from pettit for like 1k less..and remains run abt a little over 2k from mallory mazda

damn and those prices are not even remove/ re install, just for the engine...wow

zooq 12-01-01 02:25 PM

if i'm going to spend about 5-6K should i get the 20B?
is it good for daily driving (with stock turbos)?

Bacon 12-01-01 02:45 PM

5-6k on the engine alone?? just remeber the 20 b neds a custom subframe and all kinds of other bs..ive heard it can be done for alot less then pettit charges (37k) but yea its a great morot, fully streetable but will put down as much hp as hightly modified 13b's do...

did you call rotary performance? i dont know if the build engines but they do have a great reputation...
what are you lookin to get out of the motor? if you contimplating a reman you done need to even think of spending 5-6k
3-4 removed and reinstalled out the door for a reman (thats high 2 you shouldnt pay more then 500-1k for engine removal and re-install

try pinaple racing, i hear rob builds great engines..
or pettit builds great engines 2 and are cheaper then your quotes you have

thanks for the info Bacon.
i never thought that the 20B is that expencive. i thought it was like any simple engine swap.
i only want to have a 7 that runs low12 or high 11s. (safely, without having to replace something after each 1/4 mile pass).
BTW, how come no one talks about nitrous on this board?
i have a direct port on my 2000 celica and i love it .
is it bad on an FD?

Bacon 12-01-01 03:05 PM

eeehhh nos is for the big boys with big turbos, most of us are turbo , and most are sequental so we have a great power curve and instead of hitting abutton we have the power there all the time;) nos just requires proper tuning with rotaries ( rotaries dont like to be lean) and most people dont have the tuning capiblities unless their running a haltec and the their prob making enough power where nos would be more of an anoyance to get re-tuned than bennifical plus alot of people are anti NOS since F&F came out,

with my new setup i prob will have nos to help with spool and to give me more top end hp but its really not nesicary +@ like $1 a pound and considering a 40 pound bottle lasts like 4 min under wot it can get expensive,.....but iv never really priced nos, just asked the race shop by me one time when i stopped in

yea a 20b isnt just a simple swap, lots of fun with putting it in, its a dream for most of us;)

if you want mid 11's low 12 consistantly you prob want a ported motor, low 12's can be achieved with a few bolt ons and some drag radials, 11 can be done on stock twins and fully moded....

but reliable 11's on street tires would require a single turbo

evoandy 12-01-01 03:34 PM

actually, I'm from austin, and car stuff tends to be expensive as FAWK in that city, so that might be a good estimate if you get it done in austin. I think there are shops in houston and Dallas that'll give you much better prices....
