However, I'm usually dead on with my comments/questions. So what is the point of a louder blowoff valve, and who are you trying to impress by making a louder noise?

nobody really but myself i suppose. i'm new to turbos and all, and the stock BOV sound is nice to hear. i was just wondering if there was a method of taking that fun...and increasing it more by making it louder? and i guess i'm just curious and start asking away. i've been drooling over the rx7 for a looong time now and i finally picked one up just a week ago, and of course questions like this are only really discovered when you actually own the car and drive it around day to day.

ideally, i probably should've read the FAQ more carefully. but thanks for the advice, i'll look into disconnecting those hoses from the air filters tonight and see how it sounds.

With an open filter element like that the noise shouldn't change that much. Without increased boost, i do agree that it is a waste of money to upgrade.

ArmenMAxx 02-05-08 07:50 PM

im trying to do the opposite,,,, make the bov sound quiter. I cant actually put a small filter on my BOV because then then i get wastegate surge. I was wondering if the ARC blow off vavles sound good/quiter than stocks?

wow... I never thought it would come to this.

FD3Smaniac 02-06-08 09:34 PM

whats wrong with the man wanting the sound of the blow off valve, its not a waste of time and money, it doesnt cost shit to do, and take 5 minutes to complete. and by the way... BOV's sound sweet, its just the call sign of a turbocharged car. +1 for louder BOV

BlouZbee 02-06-08 09:53 PM

the stock BOV is venting while in negative pressure which is most of the time under normal driving. you can hear it ALL the time and it doesnt sound good. makes the car sound broken.

it only sounds good coming out of boost. aftermarket bovs may be different i dont know.

-1 to vented stock BOVs.

my 2 cents!

You should disconnect the big hose from the airbox before concluding the stock BOV is wimpy and inaudible.
+1

my stocky is pretty loud, i wouldnt want it louder

The silly thing is that he hasn't tried venting the one in the car yet ...

He has owned the car for a week, and right away he wants is a louder BOV. Need I say more..............????

ArmenMAxx 02-07-08 04:03 PM

Do you guys get surging when you put small (pepboys) air filters? My PCV works fine with it, but the BOV dosent. Now i put a elbow to quiet it out but its still annoying.

FD3S2005 02-07-08 05:23 PM

only a week huh, i waited about a month in a half before messing with my car, im sorry to say but i dont think his fd will last.. and for the one who wanted it quiter cant you route the hose back into the intake, wouldnt that quite it up?

Yes that would make it quiet, but clearly i have an aftermarket intake since im talking about adding filters... I have the fighters garage intake which looks like the pettit.

Soooooo do any of you guys get surging with a filter on the BOV!

FD3S2005 02-07-08 07:49 PM

whell im not sure but i have seen pictures of it done, but i dont think it will hold much because the amount of pressure there is

If you vented the CRV with the ABV, then yes you will pretty much hear it all the time. If you only vent the ABV, you'll only hear it when the throttle plates close.

the CRV is the one closest to the firewall with the black label on it. i only vented the
forward most one.
