Going from half bridge back to large street port
So I'm in a dilemma and need some advice. My rear iron broke at the inner water seal next to my port. I'm currently looking for a replacement rear side housing. I was thinking possibly if I can get a replacement front and rear housing could I go to a large street port? The next and biggest issue is that my rotor housings are notched to match the bridge job. Would this be fine if I go street port or do I need to replace the rotor housings?

why did it break, especially on an FD which has stronger casting than older turbo FC engines?

It looks like the bridge was cut too big or maybe too much material was removed underneath it. I would just pick up a pair of front and rear irons, and do a more conservative bridge. If one broke, the other is likely to go as well if the porting is similar.

I'm gonna do it myself this time. Question is should I keep rolling with a hbp or go with a large street port. The iron I now have could probably be ported to a j port still but that's not my forte.

What is the notch for? I'm not too familiar with bridge ports.

Increased airflow to match the extra brow cut into the iron it seems. An old school Puerto Rican guy built it for me. I know those guys have their bags of secrets when it come to their rotary work lol.

That's easily repairable. Get someone to build that section up with a tig and machine it back down. I've repaired several broken coolant seal walls on my own 20b doing the above and using a dremel. My intermediate housing unfortunately had some bad castings and I had about 6 broken sections. With that many broken sections, I've always had tiny leaks into the combustion chamber but that stopped as soon as I put in some radiator stop leak. Late last year, I even drove my 20b 2,200 miles round trip to sevenstock and added ZERO water the entire trip. 1 broken tab is an easy fix.

Maybe I'll try that. I've sourced another set of housings today. Not sure if my cheezy gasless harbor freight welder could perform such a job tho. If I get bored I may attempt that but I'd be too nervous to try that in my build.

Watched a vid on the bridge port. Turns out those notched are required for the extra brow cut so air can actually pass through. Without them the rotor housing would just block off that extra cut it looks.

No good....... pretty sure that iron caused this as well. No damage to the rotor house or any seals. Amazing those als seals. I bet if it were a factory seal it would have been way worse. |
