Getting the FD back on the road

So long story short, bought the car 2 years ago, drove it for 2 months, and the engine was gone

Then 6 months later I made some calls and ordered a bunch of parts, but never went through with ordering the engine. Finally after all the talk of what I'm going to do, I'm actually doing it. Called up Rob at pineapple racing and ordered an engine with 3mm apex seals, oil mods, pineapple oil pan, and a large street port.

Before the engine went I put on HKS SMF intake and HKS Hi-Power exhaust.

Here's what I currently have had sitting in my house for over a year now.

Also not pictured but somewhere in my closet is a Koyo Radiator.

Anyways just thought I would share what I've got going. I've got a lot more on my list that I will be ordering over the next few months. I will update with pics as I receive parts and when I put them on the car!

Sounds familiar! I bought my car with a bad motor in November of 2004. It was stock when I bought it and needed much Interior/Exterior work.
I originally thought that the turbo's were bad at 88K miles and started there.
To make a long story short...After buying parts, parts and more parts I have the engine getting a fresh overhaul with a Large streetport single Turbo, clutch, blah blah.
It took two years and thousands of dollars but I know once It's done it will be wellworth it and done right for years (hopefully) worth of satisfaction.
Good Luck! Looks like you're doing it right, D

Thanks guys, up next is fuel system, wideband, and some other little goodies. Still working on the exact details of what injectors I'll end up using.

UPDATE!!! Finally got my engine from Pineapple Racing. Large street porting, oil mods, 3mm apex seals, upgraded water seals, and Pineapple Racing oil pan. Also got some misc gaskets, engine shipping cover set, and Evans coolant. All I can say is I'm excited to get this under way! Also ordered up the A-Spec 500R kit! Will be here in 3-4 weeks! Shooting for 425-450 whp on pump gas. We'll see how it goes.

I would not use solid metal motor mounts on a street car. Thats just nuts. Gothamracing.com has some nice urethane mounts that won't vibrate the fillings out of your teeth. Might want to consider it.

Good luck getting her running.

Noltec seem like another popular choice for motor mounts.

Congrats on all the new toys.... Now just the fun of installing it all.. I also just called A-Spec and ordered my 500r kit today as well. Hopefully in a few months the car will be at Gotham for the new motor (current one still running fine, just thought I might as well since I am going single.)

Regarding the mounts, quit being a bunch of pansies guys(just a friendly joke, don't get your panties in a twist), we're all men here. Just because you can't handle solid mounts doesn't mean another person can't them. My daily driver (Nissan)has solid mounts, Tomei 2-Way LSD, HKS Hipermax D' coilovers 10kg/mm front 8kg/mm rear, a gutted interior, full suspension links with pillowball mounts, and I've been daily driving it for 3 years this way with no problems. This isn't a daily driver, its my track warrior/weekend cruiser. Haha you guys think my mounts are going to be unbearable, just wait til you see my suspension selection, 16kg/mm front and 14 kg/mm rear.

Bump, UPDATE

I've owned my FD since November 2004, and only got to drive it for 1 month since then. A while ago I started purchasing the parts to get the car back on the road. All was going well and parts started coming in. I had a order from Under Pressure Fabrication and Distribution, for various parts totaling 4300, long story short, they have my money and I never received any parts (currently trying to find a lawyer to represent my case). But life goes on and now I'm in a position to start finishing this project again. Here's a current list of parts

Pineapple Racing large street ported motor
Aspec 500r turbo kit
Xcessive LIM
HKS V-mount intercooler kit
HKS GD Pro twin plate clutch kit
Koyo Radiator
FEED solid motor mounts
Sard Thermostat
RE Amemiya short shifter
Sard fuel rail kit
Sard 800cc primary injectors
RC 1600cc secondary injectors
HKS chrono DB meters

So that's where I'm at right now.

I've also got a couple questions, I've been out of the RX-7 scene for a while now and have some questions.

First the turbo coolant lines. The 2 nipples in the picture are for the turbo correct?

Second, the oil feed for the turbo, I assume it gets its feed from the other side of the block?

Third the OMP. I know that it can only bolt on a certain way, and I know the the port on the side of the front housing is closed and nothing flows through it, but should the OMP cover the port completely? I know there is no gasket for this port so I assume that it doesn't matter. Here's a pic of what I'm talking about.

Alright my last one for the day. I'm planning on using a Power FC for engine management. I currently have 1600cc low impedence injectors for the secondary. My question is I'm getting 800cc for the primary injectors, should I get these in low impedence to match the secondaries, or high impedence so that they don't need a resistor?

Thanks for any help.

Get an injector driver if you want optimal performance with low impedance injectors in combination with the Power FC.

Do you already have the PFC Commander, and dataloggit?

Anybody got some answers for my questions above?

I've also got another question I would like answered. Since I am eliminating 100% of the solenoids in the system, do I need to still install the plastic pressure and vacuum chambers? Or can I completely eliminate those as well?
