Game Over Guys

Last night was a sad day for another rx7 owner. i dont want to get into details. but the car is totalled.. they still haven't decided who's at fault..but the car is not fixable.. lots of frame damage.. so i'll be parting the car soon.. front end is totally gone.

Montego 12-29-05 12:13 PM

Were you able to tell what caused your engine fire?

trini 12-29-05 01:32 PM

bajaman 12-29-05 01:44 PM

sigh.......and another one bites the dust.

Sorry to hear about the wrecking of the car you basically JUST bought. Please, PLEASE don't tell us it was 'youth and inexperience' that caused the crash! :squint:

I feel for you, several months ago a kid in his parents escalade cut me off and put me into an unrecoverable 200 ft drift down PCH here in southern california, my car ended up hitting 2 curbs and hopping a center divider curb median thing into oncoming traffic, barely missing 4 cars. I was lucky someone chased him down and took his license plate, but i lost a set of GAB shocks i didnt know i had, and the insurance company would only pay for 2 tires, 2 wheels and 2 shocks...all of which you basicly have to buy in sets (the shocks they would pay for were 1 front and 1 rear..how jacked is that...and the tires had little tread left, so only getting 2 tires would be retarded...basically i had to dish out money even tho he was totally at fault) and i was left with a set of tokico shocks inferior to the GAB units i had on the car when i bought it from the previous owner.

According to the insurance investigator it was a cracked injector o-ring.

It was a beautiful car too: a pristine 1993 silver touring with 36k miles on the clock. The saddest part was that the only affected area was the engine bay. Everything else was perfect on the car. Now looking back I should had bought it back from the insurance company and brought back to life myself. But we are talking back in mid 1998 so FD options were extremely limited.

Edit- I bought my second FD 6 months later. But let me tell you, engine fire fear STILL haunts me to this day... 7 fucking years later I'm still paranoid.

RX7_Fanatic 12-29-05 01:55 PM

also my car's alignment has been a little off ever since that happened and the steering jerks slightly every so often, probably a result of the impact, im lucky to just be alive considering the circumstances, but the car's balance was thrown off and that takes a ton of money and time to fix, if you can even fix it...

i hope to work on re-balancing it when i get my new wheels and start upgrading the suspension components like the trailing arms and toe links

Gl to you in life man, you will probably find your way back to another FD in time, but it takes time to heal from the wounds, just keep strong and keep the rotary spirit alive in yourself!

2 fire extinguishers, there is that story of the guy's FD catching on fire and he goes to use the home depot fire extinguisher and nothing...whole car goes up in flames.

2 just to be safe :)

Insurance law states: In the case of an accident where damaged is caused by an insured and deemed at their fault, all damages and costs of repair are the sole obligation of the insureds insurance to restore the vehicle to the state it was in prior to the accident.

In other words, all you had to do was show you couldn't buy just 1 shock, also, they have to replace damaged equipment with identical equipment or comperable. And in the case of replaceing tires, they have to replace all 4 if they replace 2, as long as there is at least 10% wear on all four tires. This is a safety thing and insurance companies cannot skimp on this.

Basically, they will alsways try to screw you over at first, but if you say: "NO, that's illegal" they tend to do things right. Insurance companies thrive on people who are unaware of their rights. Which happens ALOT!

Got one but to be honest you'd be surprised on how much damage can occur from a quick engine fire. Mine only lasted about 1 minute at the most. During that minute turbos, engine, and a bunch of shit in between were toast. Visually it didn't look all that bad, internally and physically things were toast. I could have had 10 fire extinguishers and the outcome would not had not been that much different. My fire was very short but very violent from what it caused.

Oh yeah ever tried opening the hood of car that has fire in the engine bay? That hood is not very cool to the touch lol... That's something that I did not think about till it happened.

the car accident wasn't the result of a young unexperienced driver, i may be young compared to other rx7 owners. 23 years of age to be exact.. but the wreck was caused by the other car making a left turn without signaling as i was passing her on her left side.. which then threw us both into a ditch.. i have the biggest heart ache, and i couldn't even sleep last night. everytime i closed my eyes all i saw was re-enactments of the crash and the crunch sound as my beloved FD smashed into her car.. The car of my dreams lasted on 3 months.. the car hit on the passenger side headlight.. which then smashed my frame hard enough that the center console in the car is tilted up and who knows else .. engine starts but idle fluctuates.. most likely a total loss and i'll be tearing that car apart when i buy it back from the insurnace.. and one more. thing.. i didn't have full coverage. which clicked into my head right when the cars hit..

darkphantom 12-29-05 06:19 PM

Depending on state and local laws, lane changes are not legal within an intersection.

You will still get everything. It wasnt your fault, full coverage is only for if it is your fault, you still get money. As long as it was her fault, your good to go. Good luck on everything. It sucks.

MakoRacing 12-29-05 08:21 PM

Im sorry to hear this man, I hope everything with the insurance company goes alright. Are you going to come back to us and get another fd after this is all over? :)

clayne 12-29-05 09:21 PM

Self-inflicted?

quicksilver_rx7 12-29-05 11:03 PM

Well, I guess since mine is for sale, I could raise the price by $1,000. :pow:

j/k sorry to hear about your car

Joe
