Angry Fuel Problem... PLEASE help

My car drives fine, and for the most part, starts fine. When I sit in traffic or at a stop light and etc, it will start to load up. The gas smell gets real strong and the RPM's start to lower until finally it struggles just to idle. If it dies, I can't get it started again, the gas smell is stong. I have to take out the fuel pump relay, it'll start right up after a couple turns, then I have to run and put it back in. When I turn off the car, I pop the hood and under the upper intake I can hear a 'hissing' sound coming from something, but can't locate it. I know, get a fire extinguisher. Any ideas...

Just an idea, but vacuum leak on the FPR?

Lots of people have problems with thier pulsation dampener spitting out fuel and catching fire. Can you tell what side of the engine the hissing is coming from?

If you have a fuel leak, you shouldn't even be driving the car. It CAN catch on fire. The common component to go is the Fuel Pulsation Dampner, and it's on the side of the engine closest to the exhaust.

If you can't find where the hissing is coming from, your best bet is to remove the upper intake manifold and pressurize the fuel system to see where the leak is coming from.

Exclamation

Yes, it's coming from the exhaust side of the motor under the intake. If it is the FPR, how much does that cost to get, do I have to get it from the dealer or is there an aftermarket upgrade? It's not being drove if I can avoid it also...

It's only a dealer item
It's about $120 or so.

To GET to the thing you must remove:
1) Upper intake
2) Solenoid rack
3) ACV
4) Coil pack
5) Secondary fuel rail
6) Primary fuel rail (where the FPD is at)

Now is a good time to:
1) Replace all vacuum lines
2) Send injectors out to be cleaned
3) Polish/coat upper intake manifold
4) Replace ignition wires
5) Inspect turbo coolant lines
6) Go insane

Did I miss anything?

I think you covered everything. Step 6 will be repeated throughout the process many times, . Oh well, good excuse to do alot of things I've been meaning to do.

FPR

If in fact it's the FPR that is leaking I'd just remove it and place an aftermarket 1:1 further down the return line.

Here's the how-to (thanks rob):

If you don't wish to replace it with an aftermarket, I have a couple of the OE FPR.
