Hi, I am a new owner to the Mazda RX-7 FD3S. I acquired a 1994 single turbo, ported, 13B RX-7. The car has three keys, one for ignition switch, one for driver's door, one for passenger's door. The car currently has problems with starting it. I replaced the battery in November and it was able to start easily and successfully every time, no matter it is hot or cold. However, I transported the car from MA to IL last week. The car was unable to start in my first try. I hear the click, but there is no crank. All the dashboard lights work, also the brake lights and headlights. I then followed the direction of bypassing H302 and it finally works. The car was able to start like it was in November. I want to ask is this problem very common to FD owners? Since the car is parking in a public garage and it does not have an exhaust pipe, I could not start it several times due to the noise.
My other question is about port. Right now, I need to press the clutch pedal after I start the engine, if I do not press the clutch pedal fully, the rpm will immediately drop. Is this a sign of ported rotary engine? Thank you so much!
Hi, thank you so much for your reply. The ECU in the car is from Adaptronic. I have searched for this brand and I think it has stopped its service now.
Hope I can transport my car from MI to IL as soon as possible so I am able to retune it. The car needs a complete rebuild except for the engine and trans I guess. Need to save up some money. I have rebuilt the 13b once when 4 or 5 years ago but never did the electronics stuff. Hope these terrible wires will not mess me up.
Get the Mazda electrical troubleshooting manual before you start any wiring projects. There's some cheap crimps coming out of the Adaptronic. Looks like the Emission harness loom was removed, not the worst thing, but it doesn't look pretty, you'll want to get that fixed to protect the wires.
As for the driver side, that's where everything interconnects. CPU 1 and 2 and the Joint Box are all there with loads of other stuff and where the Front, Dash, Rear, and Instrument harnesses all connect to each other.
