Looking good, damn what a mess she was before...

MakoRacing Sep 18, 2009 12:14 PM

Way to bring her back from the dead! Its always good to see FD's being saved, good job!

Cgotto6 Sep 18, 2009 12:14 PM

Looks good. Gotta love getting another back on the road. Looks like its getting close to being able to be enjoyed like its supposed to. Good luck with finishing up all the loose ends.

black06g85 Sep 18, 2009 12:15 PM

thanks, yeah she was beat up pretty bad, technically totalled at $12k in damages, cost me a lot less than that to rebuild myself with a friends help. Thankfully car was never reported as totalled and came up with a clean title. Can't wait to finish tuning this thing, hoping to break 400whp on 15psi.... hopefully.

it's actually driving and on the road for the last 3 weeks now, did some fuel tuning last night got it running 10psi at an 11.5afr and 10 degrees timing up top. so far so good.

spr258 Sep 18, 2009 12:15 PM

Damn looks good. I would have went another route. Feed over fenders in the rear, new Feed front fenders, feed headlight cover, and feed front bumper. But what you did was probably a lot cheaper. Glad you saved her.

black06g85 Sep 18, 2009 12:19 PM

yeah very low budget for this build, I had just finished building my cobalt up to 550+whp and then promptly blew the $6500 motor I had built...... stupid cylinders and sleeves.

I dont think it was the cylinders or sleeves...They just knew they were goin into a cobalt and took a shit before they had to put up with that kinda punishment. Haha, just kidding.

lol car was an animal until I got boost greedy and went for 27psi. Upgraded everything but the sleeves, and it bit me in the ass (that's the black car in the back of the garage in pieces btw). hell I was taking out z06's and an 04 viper with that thing.
car had:
Pauter billet chomoly rods, diamond forged pistons, CNC's ported race head w/ dual coil 78lb valve springs, Ti retainers, +.5mm oversized stainless/iconel valves, 79lb/hr injectors, sheet metal intake, long runner turbo mani, Turbonetic's 60-1 CBB turbo. It was fun while it lasted. now that car is going back to semi stock with a full race suspension and brake package with a 75 shot of the juice.
but now I'm back to the two dorito's on a stick.

Nice save, Was reworking that rear quarter a pain in the ass? Have much trouble matching it to the other side?

1QWIK7 Sep 19, 2009 06:29 PM

Awesome build up dude.

Im glad to see you saved her.

Sorry about the cobalt though, shoulda built an SRT4 instead ;) lol jk

mannykiller Sep 19, 2009 06:40 PM

Boy do I hate srt 4's haha........ but as much as i hate them....they're strong.

black06g85 Sep 21, 2009 05:43 AM

1/4 panel was a bitch, plain and simple. Spent about a week on it since we wanted to keep it all metal and only use some finish plaster. Made a cardboard template of the driver side sine the passenger side was flattened. Worked out pretty good. need to tweak it just a little bit to be 100% perfect, but you can't really tell.

as for the SRT comment, I actually tried to buy one before the cobalt, but the dealerships were assholes, charging too much for a beat car, and wouldn't let me take the car out (I was 27 at the time).

str8ryd Sep 21, 2009 09:00 AM

Great restoration work! I'm especially impressed with the rear quarter panel work you've done. It's coming out looking factory.

black06g85 Sep 21, 2009 09:18 AM

thanks man, big thanks to you for supplying most of the parts lol.
Thankfully a friend of mine is an excellent body guy, he helped out in a huge way with that,

black06g85 Nov 21, 2009 10:06 AM

well just an update, had the car tuned by enzo. Conservative setup on 12psi on 93 octane, made 383whp and 310wtq. Hopefully start prepping it for paint in the next few weeks and make it look as good (if not better) as new.

cpnneeda Nov 22, 2009 09:00 AM

djseven Nov 22, 2009 10:14 AM

tt7hvn Nov 22, 2009 02:03 PM

awesome resurection man, as these cars get fewer and fewer it's great to see people bringing them back to life

ALNY93R1 Nov 22, 2009 10:00 PM

Great job on bringing her back to life. We have to hook up one day I'm in Beacon, 8min from Newburgh.

black06g85 Nov 23, 2009 06:01 AM

definitely, I don't really know many people up here yet (just moved from queens). be nice to meet some other rx owners

My friends shop has some mud puddle around it lol, I wouldn't drive off road..

ASt delete coming soon, just ordered tires and a cf vented headlight cover for it.
it's been a lot of work so far, but it's almost ready to paint finally.
but it's a lot a fun romping on it on the highway lol. I84 is fun for pulls

black06g85 Nov 23, 2009 01:38 PM

delrin bushing, cf vented headlight cover, dual pump (044's) setup, and mickey's should be in next week. then hopefully out to atco before it closes..... I want one 10 sec pass out of this car before the snow.
