Quick question are Fd front and rear rotor housings the same?
Ie can u run a rear housing in the front and front in the rear?
Obviously the knock sensor won't reach but the wire can be extended
I'm runnin premix and hav no emissions

Based on very old memories:
They are only different in the exhaust port area due to the location of the air injection hole location.
This does not affect there use with single turbos which makes them interchangeable.

Both FD housings(S6) have knock sensor threaded holes so you can just move the knock sensor to either housing. You can run two rears or two fronts or however you want really. They are the same. You can also interchange them with S5 NA or Turbo Housings. With the S5 Turbo housings you will need to install freeze plugs in the coolant ports that are unused in the FD on the side of the rotor housings or have them welded closed. With the S5 NA housings you must remove the exhaust silencers in the exhaust ports and install turbo exhaust sleeves.
When buying new go with the FD housings, they are better housings with a better chrome finish. However, when I buy used I really like to look for the S5 NA or Turbo housings while they are "inferior"(not really) they are easier to find without extreme cracking on the spark plug holes and in a lot of cases have less wear for the mileage.

Chuck is correct, there is an EGR port in the rear rotor housing. For a non-emissions car it doesn't matter much, but for a stock emissions equipped car you'll want to orient them correctly.

as a correction it is for air injection and not EGR.
best practice is to either use the housings in the correct orientation, or drill the passage so you can swap front vs rear.
you may not have emissions now, but cars and people move. we've had a few people need engines rebuilt because the housings were the wrong way round.
