FD antenna

Is there any way to either replace or keep the long antenna from comming up when listening to CD's. I don't listen to the radio much so i really have no use for it? Is there a fuse to make it where it doens't come up anymore.. thats what i'm looking for. What do you guys suggest?

if you have an aftermarket stereo disconnect the blue wire from the harness coming directly out of the cd player (or was it the blue and white wire ) antenna should stay down after that. give one of those a try and let me know. if it is a stock stereo then i will have to take a look at the main harness and get back to you.

cut it off, its weight reduction. just kidding.I would just take the harness off that goes to the antenna. Does the antenna bother you that much where you don't want it to function?

Well one way is to install a Bose AM/FM/CD player from a 2002 Mazda 626---antenna is only activated when the radio is playing---when you press the CD play the antenna retracts.
The cost was about $100.

So where is the harness that goes to the antenna? Is it located somewhere behind my CD player (blue wire)? btw my CD player is not stock.

I'm not really trying to spend that much money on the antenna unless its one of those short ones that i see on some FD's. Those don't come up 3 feet in the air when your listening to your radio.

If your car had a factory Bose system it's the Green/Orange wire in the main radio connector.

It "did" have the bose system. Now its all aftermarket. Should it still be the Green/Orange wire for sure?

the harness is in back of the cd player, and on a non-stock cd player it is either the blue or blue and white wire. it has been awhile for me but i know it was one of the two.

It's the blue wire on any aftermarket stereo, cut it and you're done.
You could connect a switch to it which has it's other side connected to ground, that way the antenna can be manually operated.
I am also bothered by the long antenne but for me the only acceptable solution it to replace the antenna with something also, I was thinking S2000

The absolute easiest thing to prevent the antenna coming up is just disconnect the pllug at the antenna motor--4 minutes and it's done.

What aftermarket system do you have? I know late model units (I have a Kenwood Ez500) have seperate amp turn-on/power antenna wires and do not power the antenna when playing in CD mode.

Mine only comes up when I put it on the radio, when I listen to CDs it stays down but it is an aftermarket Sony head.
