Which Exhaust doesn't sound riced out?

I got a TurboTuff now and thinking about changing my exhaust possibly, what exhaust do you guys have and your opinion on it?

KaiFD3S 02-21-05 12:14 PM

Racing beat or greddy sp

jsplit 02-21-05 12:36 PM

I agree ^^ Racing Beat IMO sounds great. No rice at all.

DaleClark 02-21-05 01:17 PM

I always thought the Turbo Tuf was pretty mean sounding. It's loud as HELL, though :).

It is true, rotaries have the chance and tendency to be more "rhaspy" and "whiny" than other engines that easily create lower/deeper exhaust tones.

Most of your conventional (GReddy, Apexi) single tip exhausts that can fit a CD inside of it will not fit right. I've heard them and didn't take them all that much...

I have an M2 Dual exhaust. The dual tips are well finished, they aren't humongous, and sound GREAT. Very refined sound, loud only when it should be. Most of the "older" owners choose this or the Racing Beat (which have an AWESOME professional finished look).

Both of these Dual tip exhausts are noted for being the quietest (but sexiest) in reference to tone and the finish just complements the looks of the FD. It somehow looks like it's meant to have a dual tip vs. a single tip.

finalygotit 02-21-05 01:27 PM

I enjoy the sound of my HKS Carbon-Ti. I have had many opportunities to compare it to Ricey and even decently nice sounding Imports like Honda's and Nissans and it sounds much better. It gives it a nice look, and I believe the canister exhuast is lighter then double tip mufflers. As far as noise its kinda loud but I just put my silencer in when I am tired of hearing it. I personally think though that you should consider more then just the sound and look when buying exhuast systems. If I had the money I would go for the complete titanium exhuast!

RecKleSs 02-21-05 01:31 PM

I'm using the A'pexi GT Spec with a downpipe and midpipe, it sounds really deep and loud. It doesn't sound like rice.

alberto_mg 02-21-05 01:34 PM

Racing Beat, Greddy SP or PFS.

Julian 02-21-05 01:50 PM

Greddy Titanium

Very true. Most of the older, more experienced, owners choose the RB or M2 which are very similar. Most of the younger kids want something louder.

Which group do you fall into ??? :D

Sgtblue 02-21-05 02:30 PM

If sound is your main criteria, Greddy SP.

rynberg 02-21-05 02:47 PM

Since you use the term "ricey", I am assuming that you are referring to the typical "fart-cannon" type of sound. IMO, ALL of the single cannister-style exhausts available for the FD sound similar (except for loudness), which is to say -- "fart-cannon" like.

If my assumptions are correct about your definition of "ricey", then you will want to stick with a true muffler-style exhaust -- which happens to result in the same choices some of the other members already listed -- Racing Beat, M2 (no longer in business), Greddy SP, or PFS (availability?).

Spirit_Rotary_7 02-21-05 02:48 PM

what is definition of rice exhaust..?

loudness? high pitched? or the famous 'brrraaaaaaaaaaaappp'?

Spirit_Rotary_7 02-21-05 02:50 PM

:rlaugh: good line

actionhank 02-21-05 02:52 PM

I have the RB dual tip and it sounds wonderful. Very mellow but rich tone. I give it the ol' two thumbs up.

really?

i have the turbotuff too and i think it sounds decent, better than apexi imo..

but im changing mines as well to the greddy TI..

i heard the TI on my friends fd and it sounded sooo good, but he still had the precat so idk, im sure it will still sound good..

afterburn27 02-21-05 03:20 PM

I have the greddy SP and it gives a nice deep tone, but the tip is a little big for my taste. I haven't heard the RB duals, but I hear they are nice also.

yes it is, but sometimes I get a headache from it. Its a nice low humming bass sound.

I'm beginning to get annoyed of the loud exhaust thing so I may end up selling my Turbo Tuf exhaust to something more mature I guess? :D I'm also tired of getting paranoid of my exhaust hitting the ground every time there is a bump, since I live in the city.

SWAT81 02-21-05 04:25 PM

Anyone want to trade my TurboTuff for a RB? :D

Maestro 02-21-05 04:32 PM

Same as me I can even post a video from the 0-100 km/h Time trials

http://rapidshare.de/files-en/551237...Rian3.avi.html

Mine is a Apexi N1 GT Spec, RE-Ntec Midpipe & FEED Downpipe

You link doesn't work

Does anyone know what the value of a Turbo Tuff exhaust would be? I got it with the car when I bought it but I know its expensive as hell.

Maestro 02-21-05 04:51 PM

Works for me.

Goes to file share then you click on the Free Serivice then and the bottom on the screen it starts counting down etc etc

Then it should start downloading

SWAT81 02-21-05 05:01 PM

rofl I gotta wait 80 seconds for it to download, interesting.... :D

DGblk93 02-21-05 05:37 PM

I am a mature 29 years of age :D and I really like my RB Dual Tip. Quality is top notch. You get some droning at highway speeds, but I think that will happen with any aftermarket.

It almost sounds like my Turbo Tuff but mine is deeper then that, I like it but too deep for my taste. I just dont want to get too much attention from the crazy cops in the city. I want it to sound more like a classy Lambo or Ferrari sound :D

apex_sideway 02-21-05 07:49 PM

Racing Beat Twin Tip or Re Amemiya Twin tip.

skunks 02-21-05 07:58 PM

i dont think exhuast rice has to do with sound, it has to do with if you got a 1 inch inlet and a 5 inch outlet. if you got a 4 inch inlet comming from a full 4 inch midpipe/catback and a 4 inch outlet, there isnt any rice i can see here. sure it will be hella loud but what do you expect

TwinTriangles 02-21-05 07:59 PM

Apexi N1 Single, Sounds scary as hell not ricey...

YEP :)

Personally I don't know of any straight exhaust on an FD that sounds ricey. They all sound like some kind of helicopter or airplane. RB dual tips are for old men. I'm 40 and I won't be using one of those heavy ass non flowing, flaming, back firing exhaust until I'm about 60.

If your really hardcore you should buy my JIC single tip. The pipe (3.2 inch) is slightly bigger than the n1 (3 inch) and it weighs about 6 or 7lbs. This fucker will make your grand dad run inside and turn the hearing aid off :)

rx7girlTK 02-21-05 08:18 PM

greddy ti

ijneb 02-21-05 08:21 PM

I guess i fall into the "older" group... At 20 I have a 3 inch dp/mp/rb dual tip, and even on break in (almost done) its noisy. I can handle it now, but im affraid of how its going to sound at WOT with 15 PSI flowing thru my motor.

DSMguywantsFD 02-21-05 10:52 PM

i like how my greddy evo sounds...and it only looks slightly ricey.

I guess im an old fart also... at 23 w/ a rb dual :rlaugh:

Fd3BOOST 02-21-05 11:17 PM

PFS in my opinion is still hands down the best sounding catback.

I have RB dual tip, 3in dp, resonated mp and it is still loud. I love it, sometimes it can get a little much on long trips though. And its not for old men, I'm 25.

Hey poorboyracing what rims are those? they look great!

Rx-7Addict 02-21-05 11:33 PM

I guess im an old man with my RB catback :)

Its really loud. Downpipe, midpipe, non-seq, no emissions

dabigesii 02-21-05 11:49 PM

Old man here too. lol. RB dual w/custom straight pipe setup. It has a nice deep idle.
but a wot it sounds it wellows (wails and bellows). hard to describe. It's a real nice sound though.

ManGaZeRo 02-22-05 12:38 AM

Anyone know how many decibels is the hks cf ti with a dp and stock cat?

That's what my friends tell me when they here my car coming down the street :p:

I have the blitz nurspec that came with the car. My car is stock ride height and I've still had problems with the muffler scraping the ground. I don't mind the exhaust note, but if I did switch I think I'd go with the Racing Beat exhaust.

SWAT81 02-22-05 12:10 PM

So does anyone know the value of my Turbo Tuff exhaust? I'm possibly putting it up soon with a bunch of other stuff for sale soon. Putting up Stock turbo with no shaft play and no cracked manifold and Apexi Dual Intake kit, etc.

1QWIK7 02-22-05 12:48 PM

^^when you find out, let me know, ill be selling my turbotuff as well LOL

One of my fds is currently running this setup with a straight thru exhaust. I put it on after selling my Greddy SP and man does the PFS sound like shit. It is loud and annoying to even cruise with. NOt as loud as the N1 or Nurspec but IMO it sounds like shit. The lady that works at Krystal's actually asked me to turn my car off when I made my order thru the drivethru.

I've been VERY happy with the deeper tone at cruising and idle.

At WOT it screams like a Banshee.

SWAT81 02-22-05 06:00 PM

^^^ My TurboTuff sounds like what you described but I figured that I'm kinda tired of the large open end, which is giving me the thought of getting a RB Dual :D Anyone want to trade?

darkphantom 02-22-05 06:11 PM

the HKS hiper exhaust (not the titanium or carbonfiber one) sounds the best to me personally. and weights light as hell

http://www.hksusa.com/info/media.asp?id=1764

http://www.hksusa.com/products/?id=715

click on the video and choose the EVO

that titanium even though its powerful reminds me of the new BMW m3 exhaust. ugly and horrible

tcb100 02-22-05 06:30 PM

PFS. Sounds great, flows like a mother.

thats a good vid if you have image station, sounds like mine. I have high dp, high flow cat, custom straight pipe w/dual tip cat back. Im adding greddy titainium for a deeper tone and a more quiet idle.
