Unhappy error code 27, now what?

I don't know where the RX-7 learned to
communicate, but it has the most peculiar dialect. i believe it says it has an error code 27, "Metering Oil Pump Sensor open or short circuit or MOP sticking"

when the error code pops up, the car goes into "limp home" mode; can't give more than light throttle, cant rev over 3000rpm. but, turning the key off and restarting clears it, then everything seems fine for minutes, hours, days, or weeks before it pops up again, so maybe it is the sensor? or maybe it just sticks once in a while??

not sure how to proceed. i'm premixing oil to be safe. anyone else had this problem? how do i tell if it's the sensor? could running some solvent through the oil for a few minutes help? i know this helps the valves on boingers but haven't heard of anyone doing it to an RX-7.
i'm open to suggestions...

Sounds like a bad sensor. U can pick up a new sensor at the dealer and replace the old one. Check cable around the ecu and the sensor for any bad connection also.

Go to my site and check out the technical info I have there - you might find it useful. This is not from the Mazda service manual, it is from the Mitchell info.

Nice. I would definitely try the harness connector before buying a new anything.
