the interior will be getting a roll cage. I am hoping to keep something resembling the stock dash roof and door panels. right behind the doors I am planning on making a wall between the cabin and the rest of the car. I am not sure if you have seen the interior of the gumpert apollo so I added a picture. Something like that only far less fantastic. ofcourse this means adding a rear view camera to keep legal. I am tossing a few much needed gauges in the dash so i guess a monitor where the radio should be wont hurt.

The trunk big fuel cell I am hoping to fit a 32 gallon in there so i can skip a gas station or two. ofcourse I will want a splurge tank. after I have the cage fuel cell splurge tank ect in there hopefully I will have enough room left over to toss a duffel bag in the trunk (have doubts)

The Gumpert has a firewall behind the seats because the engine is behind the seats. There is no reason to have a firewall behind the seats in the FD, ever.

I am aware of that. and you cant say ever. I had considered turning the car into a rear engine. but correct it is a fire wall in the gumpert and i dont need a firewall. I want to separate my fuel system battery ect from the passanger compartment it will also save me needed blow downs if i ever start using co2 or nos.

but yes you are correct I don't need a wall. However by making the cabin smaller the space i need to put sound deadening in make nice carpeting or whatever i chose to use for flooring is reduced. i guess it is just one of the many ideas i have gotten in my head and want to do. some people swap pistions in i am makin a wall.

Seriously, thanks for the laugh!

If you properly install a battery box, and an approved fuel cell, there is no extra danger in having them exposed behind the seats. I think you're trying too hard to come up with reasons to emulate the Gumpert. The FD is no exotic, just leave the poor car as is and work on making it perform better rather than hacking it up.

It's your car, but I'm not following your rationale either. Earlier in the thread you were trying to save weight with the removal of various parts. Now your nearly doubling the size of fuel capacity for no apparent reason (potentially changing the balance) and adding in an unnecessary wall?

a few things have happened sense i started this thread one was driving a true track car trailered to and from. it was a rush. and for time on the track amazing. it did teach me sweet lord i want some sound deadening because i dont plan on having a trailered car.
a few other things happened but that one i am sure most can relate to.

I guess as the project grew ( i started only wanting to put in new coolant seals) and i experienced different things the plan has changed. I have it all in an excel spread sheet and i will be amazed if i make it to the end of the project without making another change.

I don't know i guess to make this easier for people who dont get to speak with me daily i should go back and edit the old posts but it seems wrong somehow.

i think 7 rocket has the best grasp of things. people do what people do. i thought about pistons and a thousand other little things in the end I started with a perfectly good fd with 99 spec body in practically perfect condition. And i will screw it up the way i screw it up.

when i started the rebuild the wife to be asked why not send it away to rebuild the engine it will keep you from doing anything else and spend the money you save on a skyline or supra.

long story short Sorry about the confusion.

also who are you kidding when you say 32 gallon might mess up the balance when its full it sure as hell will mess up the balance. it might not always be full. but seriously when its full right screwed i agree

and stokedxiv is probably right when he says i am hacking it up. (i hope i can do the car justice when i rebuild it) luckily he is also right when he said its not exotic. If it were exotic I would be far wearier of doing this to it.
