Engine Cutout Problem
Hi guys, I had an account on here a longtime ago (registered before i bought the rx) but cant seem to remember it! that said. I've been toying with a problem on my car for nearly 2 months now and im hopeing some one on here can pull a cat out of the hat. And think of something or a reason for this to happen!
The problem im having is that while driving at an intermitant time the engine will just die! this doesnt matter if im at idle. accell, decel, or cruise.
It feels like the car jolts, then there is no power when driving (press accell pedal it does nothing other than stutter!) However when at idle the rev counter usualy slowly hunts its way down untill it stalls.
I belive this to be related to the electrical load im putting on the system, as it seems to be more common when i have the radio on or the headlights running etc (last night i finished polishing car, was just doing dusk so took it for a quick spin hadn't got down the road before it lurched, did this a few times in the space of a mile
headlights were on at the time. it usualy isnt this bad it normaly just keels over i pull over turn off give it 10 seconds then it fires stright back up!)
What i've done so far:
Changed Spark Plugs (7&9's)
Changed HT Leads
Cleaned and Re-seated the Battery Terminals
Removed and Cleaned and re installed the 3 Cables connecting to the 120Amp fuse
Rats nest Replacement (to fix a 2nd turbo problem, only 1 pipe was not changed for the PRC soelnoid)
Installed a Grounding Kit for good measure.
Part of me wants the component thats slowly giving up the ghost just to die so i can point to it and go "you broke it" then replace it
Hope someone can shed some light or perhaps point me in the right direction/ give me reasons on what could cause this.
Cheers
leon.

Make sure the throttle position sensor is within spec. May not be the problem, but a very good thing to make sure it working properly. Also make sure the MAP sensor is good and the dashpot also.

Cheers guys!
ill check the tps soon, its been something ive been looking at doing anyway, it just seems rather hit and miss i would have thought if it was the tps it would die all the time not just some of the times.
i have a spare Ecu on way hope that arrives tomrow as i read somewhere someone had similar issues and it was down to the ecu intermitantly sending the fire commands to the coil
Fuel pump/filter could also be a possiblity its something ive considered, but what i realy dont like about this is its intermitant nature.

No update as of yet, just got back in the house after spending the weekend around with the other half (not the car)
Hopefuly fuel filter, Injector cleaner and the spare Ecu will be at work tomorow! I will fit/use the latter 2 and then the filter later on in week (realy hope its something simple like this!)
Also going to check out the dashpot and all the bits on the throttle body, as after hearing another rx7 in the flesh the idle is soo much more smooth compared to mine (again could be caused by injectors fuel clogs et al) but cheers for asking for updates! ill keep you posted

okay, put some injector cleaner into the tank. and also had a look at the fuel sock. its nice and clean! as is the tank inside very nice. cleaned the earth on the top fo the tank though as it was rather dusty to say the least! going to be installing the ecu and fuel pump once they arive (damn postal strikes)
i think i may have a small issue with the idle however as its always idleing high. did notice after either it stalled its self or i did it today (was in a rush to reverse and re park properly) that the idle was back down to 700-800 rather than 1100.

Okay guys, ive ran the injector cleaner through it erlyer on in the week, Made a little differance to it running smoother. The car has not died once on me even before i put the cleaner through! (typical! its been doing it for weeks now its just stoped) The problem i seem to be having now wich could have been a contributeing factor is the high idle circa 1000 - 11000 then the low idle. below 700 that seems to fluctuate. any ideas on what could cause this? i did have the car idle sweet at around 700 - 800 today prior to me shutting it off.
ive striped of the throttle body giving it a blast with carb cleaner as well as the air bleed valve, checked that the TPS' is within spec on the car while its hot. also striped the dashpot of and given that a work over with the carb cleaner and made sure it works.
my current thoughts are that the wax rod is not setup right, so its always on the fast warmup.
Edit- just had a thought! when the car is running on its low rpm patter, it pops and bags for fun as if there is excessive amounts of fuel?
