Engine Code Deciphering

I have been doing quite a bit of research vie MazdaUSA and the various Mazda dealers that have worked on my car and some of my own dirty work on the car.

I found out that my 58k young FD has had the engine replaced once. I cannot find information on who performed the swap or at what milage though.

One dealer keeps all thier records and was able to offer all the history they had on the car. Another purged thier database so I cannot access their information -- this is the dealer that sold the car to the origanal owner. The last one which MAzdaUSA mentioned saw the car quite a bit is now out of business so I cannot find out exactly what they did to my car.

Do the engine codes tell anything? Like could a rough estimate of build date be detiremined by the numbers? I couldnt see the plate with the other reman information, only the engraved numbers on the front housing.

Origanal motor Mazda has listed: 13B-E120758
Current motor number I found: E141871

Also any other ideas of where to look for information on my car? I'm going to run a carfax even though they dont offer much info.... I wonder what else MazdaUSA can tell me....

I wish I could find the previous owner and pick their brain, then I could REALLY know my car.

Have your dealership do a VIN history of the car. I got a 1-page printout with all kinds of info - port of entry, original dealer who sold it, and even the original owner. If you can get the original owner's name, you might be able to track him down and pick his brain for a bit.

As far as I know, there's nothing special with the engine codes. If you got a reman, it may just be the engine code from a front iron they used as a core.

Yea -- I am trying to get Mazda to give me a name but I'm not having much luck. lol

MazdaUSA didnt have any specific info as to what each dealer did so I cant tell where/when the engine was replaced. That'd be the advantage of finding the owner as they'd know that stuff.

Thanks guys,

~Kris
