Code 17

"17 Feedback system for O2 sensor" from LiaWoT quoting haynes. My car is throwing that code. Should I care, or does it just mean I'm running the stock fuel maps all the time?

Probably means that your O2 sensor isn't working properly. If you are on the stock ECU, then you'll run a little richer at idle and have a little worse gas mileage.

Most people use the Bosche Universal O2 sensor replacement. It's around $40 if I remember correctly.

Yeh, I'm on the stock ECU, do you think it'll hurt if i just get a PFC without the stock o2 sensor working?

Actually, this should only affect your operation at cruise...at least, that's the only time the ECU is supposed to go into feedback mode. It does not use O2 sensor feedback for idle mixture, but I can't swear the ECU doesn't do anything else in reaction to that code.

At any rate, you will run off of maps at cruise rather than in feedback mode, and so your mileage should suffer. I have no idea how the Power FC will react, or if it even uses feedback mode.

your comparing a programmable ECU and an O2 sensor?? i mean its not the ECU that is bad right... so just buy a new o2 sensor... its cheaper my fren...

hehe, no. i'm waiting for funds to come together for electronics upgrades, so if i can run fine now, minus a little mpg, and the PFC doesn't need the stock o2, there isn't much point in me replacing it, when i'll order a PFC in -30 days.

That code will just pop up from time to time. It's not a situation that the code will come up every time you drive the car (I had this code before as well).

I drove with it like that for quite a while, there really isn't a harm. And yes, people with programmable ECU's have disconnected the O2 and run without any problems.

If I understand it properly, the ECU will only throw that code if it has tried to run closed-loop feedback mode for a specified period of time and failed, maybe 100 seconds or something like that. If you're not on the highway or some other situation where you're at cruise for long enough, then you won't see the code.

thats exactly right. as an addition the ecu looks at the o2 sensor at idle, we are thinking thats why they run so bad without the airpump
