still haven't gotten my converter from FJO (bought it through horsepowerfreaks). I'm going to have to call them up and start bitching.

thewird 12-09-08 12:46 AM

From what they told me FJO is out of stock and will only have them built again end of December, early January.

alright well that's not a huge deal. the motor isn't even together yet.

i've noticed that a lot of guys have had problems getting the correct voltage correlation through the converter to be datalogged.

why not just use the gauge above that comes with everything and outputs 5v?

arghx 12-09-08 06:35 PM

^ a lot of people want dual channel logging, which that gauge does not provide.

bzwigart 12-10-08 10:30 AM

Could you just mount two gauges then?

Are you sure the prosport gauge outputs 0-5v? I have oil temp/pressure ones and to my knowledge they have no outputs.......unless something is special about that gauge I wouldn't think it does either. They're great gauges though.

AFR gauge- Yes our stand alone digital AFR gauge for $65 does read 0-5 volt, so if you already have the LC1 it will read from the output signal and work.

EGT gauge: No, it cannot datalog. The premium series (peak/warn) can recall the highest level attained and fully programmable warning buit into the gauge but no datalogging.

Quoted from Rotary Car club, posted by prosport gauges regarding the capability to datalog, or have the gauge output a 0-5v signal.

so -NO- that guage does not do what you think it does in this case. They're great units, I run the premium series for a number of parameters but they don't output a voltage for logging purposes.

EDIT: I'd link you to the thread but hotlinks to that site do not work here.....for *some* reason :)

Has anyone used these EGT sensors

arghx 02-22-09 08:52 AM

hey I had to cancel my order for the FJO EGT signal converter, but I am ready to re-order soon. Did anybody get it working with a PFC and the teamrip probes?

thewird 02-22-09 08:53 AM

I got my FJO converter box in the mail a few weeks ago but haven't had a chance to try it since I'm waiting for my intercooler from Bell.

does it look straightforward to install with the DL? From what you can see of the box right now, is there any obvious reason why I shouldn't get one?

thewird 02-22-09 02:35 PM

As simple as hooking up a wideband. Just plug in the EGT's, plug in the analogs to the datalog and use the voltage graph to set the datalogit settings.

Yes, it's just not as convenient.

Here is the signal output range for the FJO box, but I won't have it running for a little while as I still have to put the motor in the car and fabricate a downpipe. I will post a pic of the box later. It is even smaller than I expected, with a length equivalent to the diameter of a can of brake cleaner.

Twinmani egt probe setup...

This might be a dumb question but I've never done this before.

Are there any issues with tapping the twin's manifold for the EGT probes?
Does the risk of cracking the cast iron manifold increase b/c of the drill/tap?
Is the probe inserted into a bung or is it screwed into the manifold?

Thanks in advance.

mono4lamar 04-16-09 08:21 PM

^ I don't see there being a problem. As long as you don't overcrank the sensors into the manifold you wont be introducing any additional stress to the manifold. Stress is what causes cracking, there's some shitty welders out there that can't even understand this... :wallbash:

mono4lamar 04-16-09 08:29 PM

I'm still curious if the TeamRip probes will work with the FJO converter. Has anyone been able to confirm or dispel this myth?

mono4lamar 07-14-09 10:02 PM

I need some EGT's.

I'm using them right now with the FJO converter. Zero problems.

mono4lamar 07-15-09 07:01 AM

Excellent! I found next weeks purchase :)

The reason I'm really wanting these is that I've been road tuning my 42r on pump. I'm at 18lbs and "this baby hauls!" I try to not stay on the throttle too long as I don't have any EGT's. I have my AFR rich under these 15psi + cells dipping to 9.5-9.8 afr. I honestly think I'm nearing 500whp as 4th gear starts to get a loose feeling ;). After the egt's are in I'll be renting some dyno time!

Howard Coleman 07-15-09 07:09 AM

"any issues with tapping the twin's manifold for the EGT probes?"

no. if the wall is thick enough it could be drilled and tapped. if not you would drill and weld a bung.

tuners... you are looking for 1550-1600 at max power and are looking for 1400-1450 from zero boost towards one bar. all preturbo of course.

glad to see Teamrip works w FJO.

Here are pics of probes drilled and tapped into the twins' manifold. (Location allows probes to be easily serviced from under the car.) FWIW, these probes are the fast-acting, exposed tip, type "K", with an iconel sheath.

These probes have been in service now for about a year and a half, approx. 15,000 miles, with no ill issues of any kind for the probe or the manifold. It is unlikely that the manifold will crack due to the location of the probes.

These probes utilize a collet bung threaded into the manifold; the probe itself slides into a collet sleeve and is clamped in the desired place by tightening a collar nut. To remove the probe, loosen the collar nut and slide the probe out.

gracer7-rx7 07-15-09 11:32 PM

Thanks for the input. I ran out of time and didn't tap the manifold.

Teamrip doesn't seem to sell probes any longer. I got one from here and placed it in the downpipe.

Great service from them fwiw

sorry for bumping this up. but howard.. can you confirm about the way how speed of light installed the sensor on the twin correctly?
