That looks crazy. Like it

scotty R 02-12-13 11:46 PM

that is sweet!!

REnaissance_Sle7in 02-13-13 12:31 AM

Saw that yesterday on speedhunters...the idea is sweet enough, the way they blended the paint away makes it even sweeter!

Vertex make one
It is about $4000 for 9~10 lbs in weight saving

But, but, but its Carbon Fiber!!
Lol.

revolutionz_fd 02-13-13 01:08 AM

lol^

AUS-FD3S 02-13-13 05:21 AM

I love carbon fibre so this is just pure sex for me and your right the paint fade just makes it the little bit more wooo.... even though its a small weight saving the fact its weight from a height might give it a good handling benefit.

LoU "hOw Ya Do" 02-13-13 06:13 AM

that is sick!

djseven 02-13-13 08:21 AM

It always amazes me what you "show car" guys will spend money on. Neat I guess but not my cup of tea. Great attention getter though.

RENESISFD 02-13-13 08:24 AM

That car is not a show car. It is a time attack car. Did you read the article?

Obviously I did not:blush: Either way, the guy posting about it was running 20" wheels on his FD for years if memory serves me correctly so I still feel safe saying this mod will be done by more car show guys than race car guys.

RENESISFD 02-13-13 08:37 AM

I agree, but the cost to do something like this is so expensive and requires special skill otherwise you end up with a car chassis that is weaker than when you started.

93rx74lyfe 02-13-13 09:47 AM

Looks great.

i'm with you %100 on this i love the way it looks i'm big on carbon fiber but i don't know how i feel about cutting into the car

p.s. the sad part is that i would probably buy it if i didn't have to cut into the car

mono4lamar 02-13-13 10:55 AM

Gayer than buttsex. I'm amazed at what people will do to these beautiful cars. Rusty primered strut towers and a carbon roof (awesome). I'm going with no benefit to loss in handling/performance due to it losing to an s15. Looking at it more it actually looks like an overlay...

Carbon fiber should only be bolt on body parts or full carbon chassis IMO.

Montego 02-13-13 11:00 AM

No really feeling it, but meh whatever...

SWAT81 02-13-13 11:50 AM

Doesn't look like the whole roof is carbon fiber from what I can see, it just looks like an overlay.

catch-22 02-13-13 12:04 PM

Why someone would spend that kind of money on that is beyond me... All that money goes right down the drain when the resin in that yellows from the sun and looks like ass.

RENESISFD 02-13-13 12:14 PM

I also want to add that that is not a "dry" carbon roof. Dry carbon is not shiny and covered in glossy resin. The whole point of dry carbon is to remove all of the unnecessary resin therefore leaving a matte to satin finish similar to the revolution time attack FD. Thats why most cars that are actually carbon fiber bodied for real weight reduction are painted.

Gringo Grande 02-13-13 12:23 PM

^Beat me to it. Dry Carbon Fiber IIRC actually results in weight savings and is infinitely more expensive than CF overlay which 99% of parts use.

Example:
Seibon CF Hatch (Wet) is around $1000
Feed CF Hatch (Dry) is around $5000 IIRC

Edit: Found the Feed - http://www.fujitaengineeringusa.com/fdimages/pl_031.jpg (weighs 3.5k)

RENESISFD 02-13-13 12:26 PM

Also, Normally dry carbon is cooked in an autoclave under pressure as well. that is why it is so much more money.

So we've come to the decision that this is lame?
