Actually, I suspect he called you a punk because you're acting like one.

People need to start looking at themselves before they start pointing out shit about others.
How ironic that you should say that...

AMRAAM4 01-11-04 05:09 PM

^^ I rest my case. Was there a need for him to reply?

Good luck with your car jimlab, hope it is done this year.

Now let’s see how well I spent that last hour of my life...

here here!!! i feel the exact same way you do. there is a ton of completely un-nessisary shit slinging on this forum which goes nowhere. there are also a good amount of people who are here to read and share information that will HELP EACHOTHER! isnt that why we are here in the first place... to help eachother. i have been on this forum for quite some time now and would never be in the place i am with my 7 if it werent for the great info and people here. i understand that its easy to "yell" at someone when you disagree... it takes more time and thought to constructivly criticize... but please people i urge you to try and improve our community in this way. i love the forum, yet get frustrated alot of the time when a perfectly informative/civil/friendly thread goes down the shitter! so please, everyone.... there are only so many of us on here (and only so many 7's left) so lets try and get along in a way that will be the most beneficial to everyone here. if you feel the need to to get some agression out by yelling at people in a non-constructive way, then do it with the supra guys.... not your own brothers!

lets get this thread (and this forum!) back on track!! -heath

Does anyone want to see a paint job that took more than a week?

damn thats a nice paint job

TAMAatWork 01-11-04 06:08 PM

manatecu,

On that front clip spoiler you have. Would that fit on a stock front end? Basically the same as a 99 spoiler with a few adjustments?

Thanks,
Joseph

 Man that is a very good paint job. Whoever buys that FD will never know the difference. That would scared the hell out of me to see my car like that. Good choice on the color. As for the original thread starter...nice little combo you've got going there. I'm not such a big fan of the front end, but the hood/color/ and definately my personal favorite of the wheels looks very good. Make sure to get some pictures up when it's all done.

shawnk 01-11-04 07:15 PM

I would love to have been able to take mine down to nothing but metal and paint....One day....One day...

Very nice Jim.

You talking about the nose or headlights (which are not done)? I had an old kinghtsport nose on it but that thing was not installed properly so by the time I got the car it had cracks all through it. The thing I like about this nose is I got it for $100 and picked it up so no shipping...hard to beat that kinda deal. I think it will look nice once it is black. The headlights will have the covers on them and I think the RE type kit looks best on a black car so I am hoping it will all come together with the paint. :)

Thanks. It's just '02+ Corvette Electron Blue Metallic.

I had a deposit on an EBM '02 Z06, but found a Torch Red '02 out of state for about $5k less and ended up buying that one instead. Since I liked the EBM so much, I decided to paint the RX-7 that color.

They are SSR Integral A2's...they have been discontinued for some time now I think. Only thing is I wish they were all 17x9's. Never liked having different size contact pads on a 50/50 balanced car - doesnt make sense to me...

Nice. I like the whole set up. My car has been repainted but the red they used is a little off from the original red. Im hoping one day to have it painted Guards red. Looking forward to see pic of your FD when finished.

RotorMotor 01-11-04 08:23 PM

WOW jimlab.... thats all i can say. how much did this cost you? im assuming you pulled everyhting out yourself and just had them paint it. my donor car had an engine fire and i want to change colors, but i dont think i can afford it al at once. i need to focus on getting the 20b mounted and running!! right now the engine compartment is completely stripped. my question to you is (or anyone else for that matter) what do you think my best approach should be to painting the car. my plan was to pull the fenders.... have a shop paint the engine compartment and all of the surrounding frame (in 99 IBM blue)... and then put all the siiver pannels back on. then get the engine mounted and running in the fresh engine compartment. later when i have more $ and time have the rest of the car painted to match the engine compartment..... does this seem like a reasonable plan? would you take a different approach? (remember that i have limited assets and getting the motor in and running is top on the list). i have to make all these decisions soon cause the ball has already started rolling  heath

PS off the top of your head, very rough estimate, how much would a decent shop charge to prep a burnt engine compartment, and paint it and the surrounding frame?

Somewhere around $1,500, believe it or not, because I did most of the prep work and masking myself, and all of the disassembly and reassembly. A friend (who has been painting for nearly 20 years now) painted the car for a new rifle and a couple cases of beer, so the only other major costs were materials. We did the doors, hatch, hood, jambs, and engine bay at his home shop over two or three weekends, and then hauled the car down to the dealership he works for to use the booth for the outside on another weekend. The body shop manager is also a friend of ours, so the booth was free, and I got a discount on the flatbed wrecker used to haul the car both ways too.

Sounds almost exactly like what I did the first time around. We painted the door jambs, hatch and hood on weekends, and then after the engine blew, pulled it and painted the engine bay while it was out and a new one was being built. We left the outside of the car for last after all the mechanical work was done, but I changed my mind on the color before that happened. I changed my mind on the engine, too. :)

My only advice is to make sure the color you pick is absolutely the one you want, or you'll end up doing it all over again.

I can't give you an estimate because costs vary so much in different areas. I'd expect it to cost less than $1,000, but that's just a guess. It would depend heavily on whether anything has to be replaced because of the fire damage.

RotorMotor 01-11-04 09:31 PM

oh, well everything has to be replaced, but luckily Dcrosby crashed his car, and i bought all the parts i needed off of his car. basically i can do most of the work besides prep and painting the engine compartment, and towing will be free for me (thanks AAA platinum coverage!). stripping down the car is actually not that bad.... i basically stripped Dcrosbys entire car in 1 day.... (engine/tranny/seats were already out). i can get the entire front half of the car ready to go but, ill have to leave all the prep work to them, as well as the painting.
