Downpipe...Midpipe??

Hey all, first post here. Bought my new shiny 93 FD!

I dont have a jack to see under the car yet, but I was wondering, is the mid pipe the pipe that connects from the down pipe to the cat-back? Essentially it would have the main cat on it, correct?

I am going to replace the downpipe with a catless one, thinking HKS. My exhaust is 3" - is there a down pipe that will match this? Aswell as a catted 3" midpipe? And I hear it is good to replace the ECU with one of the aftermarket ones to work with the better turbo flow via the downpipe... is that correct? Thanks everyone glad to be here.

Ahh you bought Ninja's FD! I was wondering who had it now. Yes that is correct. midpipe connect the DP to the CB. HKS will match up to the 3". Most aftermarket DP's for FD's are going to be 3". If you would like to upgrade your ECU with a full exhaust (especially an upgraded midpipe) I would suggest the Apex'i Power FC and Commander. Dirt cheap in the Group Buy forum. Very user friendly and it's a full stand alone unit. You'll never need another. Welcome to the club.

Edit: be sure to check the NW forum for local events and stuff. Also, if you need a shop to find parts or do some work. Let me know. There's a great shop in Kirkland.

The stock parts are pre-cat, main cat, and cat-back. These are replaced by a downpipe, midpipe, and cat-back, respectively. Do NOT remove the main cat until you are ready to run a midpipe, which is a serious mod.

Please read the FAQ thread.

Please do some serious reading before you go and start upgrading parts. Like your new "jedi Mentor" said.... You HAVE to get a new computer before replacing the main cat with a midpipe. If not....boom. And not the cool kinda boom like when the deathstar explodes...the kinda boom that you just want to curl up and cry over. Anyways. Welcome to the club and you will definately LOVE driving the FD. I will recommend a good place to buy parts from, and that is Jason with RX7store.net I find he most always has the best prices on things. Not that I am plugging his store, just trying to tell you a cheap place to get stuff.
