Does '99+ FD "not" have EGR hump on intake manifold?
 

I have retained the ACV for smog. I know i'll prolly have to tip to pass anyhow but I want to finsih what I started, since I never do. I thought about the GZ manifold but then no ACV. I have the EGR blocked off now and it's not hidden like it was with the twins. I can get the '95 sticker for the hood and even a '95 manifold but if the latest version doesn't have the hump, the hump, the hump (lovely lady lumps) then i'll try to get one of those instead.

Are the smog Nazis in CA really that bad? How about just bolting an EGR, and running the wires to...somewhere/anywhere. :)

As far as I know, none of the JDM lower intake manifolds had the EGR. I bought one a while back like this and I've seen them for sale fairly recently in the for sale forum.

The EGR won't fit with my GT500R. I have the wire connector for it and the PFC ignores it, so it wouldn't have been a problem to have it plugged in for visual but the turbo is too big.

I know '95 does not have EGR but does it still have that "hump" that sticks out wherre the EGR would normally be mounted?

I'll try to take a look later but I'm confused....you are bolting on a huge single turbo and you are worried about failing visual because of a missing EGR? :scratch:

Sounds to me like he's saying his turbo won't fit because of the hump in the LIM where the EGR attaches to the LIM.

Well it won't fit with the EGR installed, so I have to use a block off plate. I know the '95 does not have EGR, so therefore no bop for smog tech to see. If the '99+ manifolds don't have the hump then there is more clearance for the turbo and better flow because I get rid of that small turbulance.

None of the JDM cars had EGR at all - that was just an addition by Mazda for US-bound cars, same as the 3000 RPM AWS startup - the JDM manifolds don't have AWS at all, it's not in the casting of the manifold.

Shouldn't be that hard to find a good used JDM lower intake manifold. I got a hella deal a while back - JDM upper and lower manifolds, fuel rails with injectors, for $110 off Ebay :).

I think rynberg means that the missing EGR should be the least of his worries, given that GoRacer's gone single turbo. In other words, I don't think the referee will be seeing past the big @ss, aftermarket turbo and notice the blockoff plate lol!

Not unless you're talking about the '95. The '93 and '94 US spec have the EGR valve flange and the extra vacuum line in the manifold for the EGR valve. The JDM doesn't.

I've got it in my garage right now :).

Performance-wise, they should be identical. The JDM part is just cleaner, and gives more room for a big turbo.

Ok, besides the valve flange hole studs mounting location for the EGR the is a hump, mound, bulge that sticks out for the recircualtion of the air. So, the question is does the newer JDM only ('99-'02) version still have the "buldge" even if there is no hole, flange, mounting point for the EGR? I'm sure the flow won't be as good as GZ's but the main concern is clearence for the hotside of the single turbo. Not having the bop is a bonus.

I have a 95, although my LIM is off the car and is at a shop being polished. I am fairly certain it has the hump without the holes for the egr.

there are LIM without the EGR I believe the JDM one, or you can buy the aftermarket LIM, just cant remember the name..

Pics of the front and back of the JDM LIM. This is, from my knowledge, what ALL the JDM LIM's are like - '93-02. Remember, there was NEVER any EGR valves on Japanese FD's, PERIOD. That was solely for the US market.
