Does a 9.5lb flywheel make it less driver friendly?
Does a 9.5lb flywheel make it less driver friendly?
Cause I just ordered a ACT S/S clutch - XACT Prolite flywheel combination and am curious about how it will feel. Will it be harder to drive on the streets? Is it dreadful? Thanks, Victor :) |

you should be fine with a s/s clutch... some guys just don't like it at all with a 6 puck....
|
daily drive mine w/ 9.5 lb flywheel and act ss clutch... it drives great. you'll love it.
|
its great if you arent a wuss. it makes shifting and heel-toeing a lot nicer. should be real easy with that street clutch.

Heh...he doesn't talk much. Just helps out the noobs. :D J/K
You'll have to get used to the casual driving again as it will tend to stall on you easier as there's less rotational mass to keep the motor going when getting under way and it will rev down quicker when shifiting, but once you get used to it, you'll like it. It might sound loose for a bit, but that'll just be the clutch needing to be broken in. I think 500 miles or so is the standard. Don't go to the track the next day like I did. :D Long story short, you'll probably be happy with the combo. |

Get the lightest you can afford.

XACT Prolite flywheel was pretty cheap, under $300.
but now I gotta get the counterweight which is about $150. I think. Anyone know where the best price for the counterweight is? Thanks, Victor |
Racing Beat or Mazdatrix.

I went with the Street 12lb and bought the counterweight too. I haven't installed it yet. I can tell you that you need to find some bolts for the counterweight, it didn't come with them.

no

Aren't they just auto tranny counterweights? I don't remember where I heard it, but for the 9.5# I heard they are just the Auto Tranny counterweights from Mazda.

When i did my conversion from auto to manual. I installed SR motorsports s/s clutch with 9.5lb flywheel and it came with everything. I did notice that the counterweight that SR gives you is smaller and shaped different. The one on the auto was larger and more wider. I didn't weigh them but the size is definately different. But i also heared you could use the auto counterweight, But there is a difference in their size.

I have been using a 9.5lb SR flywheel for the past 3 years. I drive my car daily and I am very happy with it.
