I had some spare parts laying around and kinda just tossed this together. The only thing that sucks is I would have to move to non-pop up lights to retain the ambient air intake where the second oil cooler would be. It reminds me of an old friends 1st gen...

Way to go on fabbing up your own stuff. I love to see people make their own parts, and such. I would suggest trying to lower the intercooler, though. As said before, it doesn't look like it'll get much airflow. If you put your bumper on, I think you'll see that it's sitting higher than the opening in the bumper, and that you can lower it quite a bit, without it sticking out the bottom.

Try looking at the Apex'i GT-Spec fmic. It sits behind the bumper reinforcements, like yours, and is tucked under the bar that the hood latch is bolted to.

So you took an intercooler and put it behind he radiator support instead of the opening in the nose, am I missing something?

i m going to say the car will still cool fine *if* the ducting was done properly

it'd still be the best if there were a reversed vent hood goes with this setup

i have a Border Racing intercooler on my car that is very similar, it comes with an aluminum plate that goes from the latch mount back and sits flush with the top of the radiator

How well does your setup work? I'll be ducting everything and the car does have a vented hood along with water/alcohol injection.

i THINK that it works really well, when i originally installed it i still had AC in place and a very slightly damaged coolant seal on the rear rotor. I just rebuilt the motor and took the AC out but I haven't gotten it off of the dyno yet to really see what the temps are. I had a very similar setup on my FC and it worked great. I see a vented hood in my future as well though

I did this on my FC with an SRT-4 FMIC, the piping is short, boost responst is nearly stock with a hybrid TO4b. It still needs some more ducting, it seems to stay pretty cool. I will log some intake temps in the future.

I thought of that, but I might be able to sneak it by the radiator and go into the second oil cooler duct.. btw that is just a greddy fmic core flipped upside down..

Fresh Air Headlamp cover. Not sure if that would work in an FD though, and a turbo with large intake like that...

With some proper ducting I think this would work as good as having it way out front.

That is pretty trick. I think I might make some sort of contraption to suck through one of the vents in this hood...

This set-up is the same thing Pettit does for the 20b Banzai.

you really want the IC to sit lower so it gets direct air coming in from the bumper. other than that, sitting back to back with the radiator totally works.

ya wanna post some pics of this cause the banzai 20b im thinking of has a true frontmount with a vertical radiator.... i know cause i coppied it as i liked it so much very clean and effective.

I have not had a chance to read the NACA article on these ducts. I am unsure of what mach number flow the above duct is optimized to (it says it is based off of curve fits of several optimized ducts). It would be interesting if someone could run CFD simulations using a genetic algorithm optimizing air flow/drag at the mach number in question to see how close it comes to approximating the duct designed using this excel sheet. I doubt anyone is actually this bored but it would be interesting none the less.

Hmmm... I might look into this, I have a ton of fiberglass NACA ducts laying around..

I did something similar with my intercooler. Mine sits a bit lower though. I had to bend up the power steering cooler... Im still not too happy about that and will eventually replace it with a different cooler.
