Difference between Spirit R: Type A and Type B
 

Hey, i'm looking at buying a Spirit R, so far the only types i've seen are the Type A, though i like sound of having 4 seats in the car. I just wanted to know what the differences are besides the 2 and 4 seats, is the type B external shell different to the type A?

Longer maybe? uglier?


any more information that you guys can throw my way will be valued on what to look out for when buying a spirit r.

For the final production year Mazda have released a limited edition of the RX7, the Spirit R. The third-generation RX-7, first launched in 1991, has a particularly distinctive exterior design. Its lightweight, compact and high-output rotary engine enables the driver to feel superb driving pleasure. Epitomizing Mazda's spirit of sports car, RX-7 has won popularity among the customers since its 1978 launch. Mazda envisions the production of the current RX-7 model (FD-3S) to come to an end in August 2002.
The Spirit R series is available in three models: the Type A, a two-seater with a five-speed manual transmission; the Type-B, a four-seater with a five-speed manual transmission; and the Type-C, a four-seater with a four-speed automatic transmission. All three models are equipped with common interior and exterior features, such as BBS-manufactured 17-inch wheels, red brake calipers, and interior panels with a special soft coating, while each model shows off its own equipment to make a difference from the other.
The Type-A Spirit R is a two-seater model fitted with the Recaro-made exclusive red full bucket seats. These lightweight seats reduce the overall chassis weight of the vehicle by approximately 10 kg. Braking performance is enhanced through the use of large drilled type ventilated disk brakes for all four wheels and high rigid stainless mesh brake hoses. The Type-A Spirit R model is the ultimate RX-7, boasting the most outstanding driving performance in its history.
The Spirit R is available with five outer panel colors including Titanium Gray Metallic.

This is exclusive to the Type A right?



Also, if anyone can add anything more from their own personal experience between the Type B or Type A would be great.

To Be Honest I Have No Idea. Run A Search Somewhere And See. I Dont Know About Them, That Just What I Found From The 1st Thing That Popped Up When I Typed In Spirit R In Google.

6-speed? Are you sure. I have neve heard of any FD with a 6-speed from the factory.

Where can you pick up one of these 6 speeds?

I think his information is incorrect.

It is a 5 speed and the type b had 4 seats along with c. Type A had 2 seats and the recaros.

No FD ever came with a 6 speed.

factory never came with 6speed.... although there is a Greddy 6speed conversion.... i just haven't heard of anyone owning it nor good things about..

i dont know the diffirence for them all i know is its not fair i cant get my hands on any of them

I think the Type-As had black carpet, black bins and the red Recaro carbon-kevlar seats, as opposed to the B and C which had red leather seats (like the US ones), red carpet and maybe red bins. Also, the BBS wheels on the Type-A were gunmetal, versus straight silver like the BBSs on the type B and C. The Type-C came with an auto tranny.

So there are only 500 pairs of the Spirit R Recaro's in existence?

no you can buy them at the mazda dealer here you can also buy just the red seat cover but they are over 1k each cover and i think the seats are 4k+ each.

The forum is mainly made up of North American members, and that part of the world only saw FD's from 1993-1995.

Right, although the 00-01 RZs of course had the same red seats, and there were about 350 of those.

To add to this...

There were 3 versions of the Spirit R. Type A was like our R models, and came w/ the Recaros. Type B came w/ red leather seats and rear seats. Type C came w/ red leather seats as well, but I believe they don't have rear seats.
