Did Top Gear never make an episode on the FD3S?
 

Ive being searching for a while now...

I cannot find ANY evidance that Top Gear has ever made an episode on the FD3S, i was very disapointed! How could they just ignore the FD?

There is an old video about the FC... however i really wish they test drove it.


Do you guys know anything about this?!!?

This did test drive the FC. The did a side by side comparison with the Porsche 944 with it. But to my knowledge they never tested the FD.

The FD has been mentioned on the show before. I believe when it was mentioned Richard Hammond referred to the FD as "a bit daft" but gave no explanation why. The FD I believe was also in Clarkson's Top 100 video but not in any sort of tests. I think I have that video on a disc somewhere.

I hope Richard as refering to definition #2 and in a good way. If they truely do not like the FD then i would loose a LOT of respect for Top Gear... there is NO way that an FD chassis and engine can be concidered rubish.

Pulling a .97 skid pad STOCK... enough sayed, the FD wins all the number games for its time, and then some.

And also, who cares if they dont like the FD, alot of people dont like the FD. That doesnt mean their assessment for other cars shouldnt be acknowledged. If they did imply the FD was stupid, which im assuming they didnt, then thats their opinion. It still doesnt change the fact that the FD is no doubt a great sports car.

I mean have you seen their "cool wall" lately?? Do you know what cars they have under not cool?? You'd wanna smack them.

That being said, if they dont like the FD, who cares. Not everyone has to. Some people like it, some dont. Who cares.

There was an older episode with just the FD when thr blonde was a host.

there was an episode reviewing the 99. I saw a clip of it a couple years ago.

Sadly back then the show was more serious, and less like the top gear we know today. I have a feeling the FD would fare better under todays top gear than it did in those early episodes.

Top Gear is the best car show on TV, wish we had something remotely as good in the US!

Top Gear is alot different to what it used to be like, they say that now you don't even need to like cars to like the show, it's more funny now!!

I like the shows when they do tasks around the World. In particular when they went to the States and drove American cars across the "Bible belt" states... was sooo funny what they wrote on eachothers cars to provoke the Southerners, Clarkson in his Transam (I think) that had been involved in a murder and James May's Cadillac that wallowed around like a Hippo trying to be a ballerina....

Then there was the Vietnam one where they had to use motorcycles, it was amusing seeing Clarkson getting soaked in the rain witth a bucket for a helmet...hahaha

motor week has the rx-7 with the 300z supra and 3000gt and they liked the rx7 way better.

Yeah i mean clarkson is in deep love with jaguar and never really liked the porsche turbo.

They haven't been British made for years FYI :) - They're owned by Tata Motors (Indian company) atm..and before that Ford.

Shamefully we have very little car industry left in the UK, aside from very small sports car firms like Ariel, Noble, Morgan etc.

Seems like they favor the FD.

And i love how they say supras have that great top end. The gearing/powerband is perfect as i have said many times in the past ;)

Funny how in the video, Top Gear says the FD has a smaller turbo then a much bigger turbo that comes on around 4500 rpm...

You'd think they'd know that the turbos are both the same size...

thing is, clarkson doesnt actually know how an engine works, he said in one interview that he has never had to learn, he just knows fuel and air go in and power(or magic as he called it) happens

It's ironic that the UK's former colonial subjects now control much of its auto industry.

CharlieUK, I'm sure most Americans take it all in stride and laugh at the jokes too. I personally think it's hilarious when ever Clarkson off-handedly mentions something to the effect of all Americans are obese. Of course it's not true, but it is a funny stereotype (then you walk into the local Walmart and you start to think he's got something). Most of our TV programming is based on making fun of people so we're kind of used to it.

Beside the fact that it is an Awesome show, it's cool to watch a something from another country too. We get the show over here through BBC America (Cable) and I DVR it every week. The only part I'm not too fond of is the bit "Star in a reasonably priced car" because most of the time I've never heard of them. Not that they aren't entertaining, just that they could be some person they pulled from the crowd and I'd never know.


I love the show and really don't care what they think of the FD. Seriously... these guys are in love with the Ford Mondeo which is essentially the UK version of the Ford Contour.


My only beef with them is theyreally need to include an Ultima GTR to their Supercars list. After them running the FXX which isn't even a street car it is just ridiculous that they won't let it on the track.

good thread revival. i hadn't seen a couple of those vids

living in south california, i have a few hookups on pilot episodes. i went to a pilot episode for a US version top gear. adam carolla(sp?) was the host. he was pretty good too. hes a great gear head and hes somewhat funny. they had hassle hoff as a guest star, who is somewhat an american staple when it comes to cars being the driver of kit. they did a few tests on the DB9 vs the R8, and the american stig was on the show.

in summary it looked like a good way to start, being a fan of the UK top gear i thought it was successfull. they recreated the studio set and everything. but, it never aired. effects of the writers strike = american gladiator to fill the spot. that and it actually didnt get much interest in the US, which is suprising, but i think the writers strike had a hand in the lack of interest. just not the right time i guess. i think you can google or even youtube some evidence of it, i cant at work unfortunately.

You know I met a handful brits here in San Diego (really just a handful as we dont get too many way over here). Usually in no time flat they make a crack at the U.S. I had noticed that prior to even watching top gear.

So to answer you question nah it doesn't bug me one bit as I actually find it funny. But honestly I think the jokes/attitude comes from still being butt hurt that we broke off from the motherland and became a world superpower.

To be honest, most people have forgotten or couldn't care about that. Brits are not any different to Americans in our attitudes/views etc. But as always....people are blinded by common generalizations, you get this in pretty much any country :).

i dont think ive ever seen an FD review on top gear ,but i think they should do one comparing the Fd 2JZ 300zx and then maybe compare those to todays japanese sports cars like the 350z and sti and evos.

Sure does, although the later Series 8s with the 280hp did it in as low as 4.6, 1/4 mile was 13.3-4

LOL, It's not just the British. Take a trip pretty much anywhere and see what they think of F350 Super Duty crew cabs, The Gap and Americans in general.

Yes we Americans are quite proud of our domestic cars, who wouldn't be proud of the AMC Pacer, the Chrysler Cordova, the Cadillac Cimmaron...

Too funny-I traded my 91 3000GT VR4 for my 95 FD back in 98 and never looked back. Totally different driving experience. The FD is a pure drivers car and the 3000 is not.
