dash lights color

has anyone ever changed the color of the gauge/controls lights? i was just wondering if it was possible. it seems like it would just be changing a colored bulb behind them since the color doesn't seem to be in the button/gauge itself. i used to have an RSX type-S and it had all red lights and i fell in love with the way it looks. plus (this is really sad) i just got a new Sony head unit and its lights are all red (with a large blue glowing display) and think it would be nice if all of them were the same color... i can't change the ones in the head unit though...

sorry for the rambling, but can it be done?

If you want your stereo to look integrated with the dash, why don't you do it the easy way and get a new head unit? Nakamichi, Denon, and the higher end Alpines (e.g. CDA-7998) have amber illumination.

They have something on e-bay that can change the color of all the lights of your interior. Use keyword rx-7 kit. I think it's still on there.

I have an Alpine and highly recomend their products, but you probably don't want their face that flips out. If your driving it's kind of hard to deal with if your having to shift into first, third, or fifth. The only difference in the stationary head unit and the flip out is merely the way you insert your cd. The sound quality is the same, and can be used with alot of different setups.

Why not? I have the CDA-7897 w/ FantomFace XL (motorized hideaway face); it does stick out about ~1" away from the dash, however I have no issues with it being in the way during shifting at all.

I really like my Sony thanks for all the suggestions though. i'll be checking ebay now, but i've had no luck in the past, so if anyone comes across this... could you PM me a link? thanks

I've got a sony deck too. What model are you using? I've got a half ABP model (I can't remember the #) with some white, blue and orange illumination. It works really well with the rest of the color scheme. It was one of the "L3" or "L cube"series if I remember. I've got a pic that I'll post tonight. It has no faceplace controls and two remotes. Looks seamless to me...

its a Sony Explode, one of the new ones... not top notch but not baragin basement either... runs CDs, CD-RWs, MP3s, has face buttons well designed into it and a remote also... its what i could afford and i think it looks nice... the point is though, i really think the interior would look nicer with red lights than the orange and i wanna change it but don't know how

thanks speed king

Sorry but the Color of the Instruments is built into the instrument faces themselves (colored plastic) the Bulbs are just plain white. so to change the color would mean changing the instrument faces. - adding RED covers to the bulbs may make the lighting look redder -or just plain
weird :D

max, from some of the other threads that people have linked too, it seems like i can easilly remove (grind) the original tint off of the instruments and replace it with red. i might just have to do this :)

Get a difererent stereo, or live with it. By the time you rip out your dash, repair the things you broke, change the color, replace the dash, pull it back out because you fu**ed up something, and put it back together again, you will wish you never even considered the project.

After you get everything done, you will have to keep the stereo pretty loud to cover the noise from the rattling dash that you now have.

good thing you have so much faith in my abilities to do anything mechanical. on another note, thanks for the constructive advice which you "obiviously" must be right on since you seem to have had so much experience in trying it. appreciate the response, but i'm pretty sure i'll just be ignoring your post.

It's nothing personal. Shit happens. Things just never go as easy as you think they will, and things never go back together as good as they were.

About 10 years ago, I decided to replace a cracked dash on an FB. It took two of us about 6 hours to do the job (12 hours total labor). We wound up cracking the windshield ($250). There was one little dash noise when we were done. I never could find the cause, so I had to live with it. It was very annoying. We were both experienced mechanics.

I used to think that I could fix anything, and that it would always turn out perfect :)
